I think it's quite old fashioned to quote the Bible these days, as I
would think that there's fewer people reading(that's just my opinion
remember).

And all it does when they do it to an audience they know is outside
their religion, is demonstrate both their intellectual bankruptcy and
their deliberate disrespect.

I was born and raised catholic. I am now and will forever be an
atheist.

I was never any kind of theist. It's like citing the Greek myths as
"proof".
They realise this at some level yet they still do it.

I can see the point of religion for some, and that it has positive
ideals. I would never support anyone's suppression of religion (of
which I do NOT include CO$ as it is a humdrum self-help philosophy
that really doesn't do much but give people a bit of a chip on their
shoulder and the belief they can cure disease by "postulatin it
gone").

If only they (a) lived up to these alleged ideals, and (b) had any
intelligence at all about it.

I think it's an out dated concept to believe in GOD so I choose not to
believe. So long as nobody else's beliefs cause harm to others then I
think people should be FREE to pick and choose whatever gives them the
best piece of mind. When it infringes on people's liberties and
freedoms then there are questions to be asked.

I wouldn't call it a choice. People believe what they were taught by
their parents in their formative years, and it becomes almost hard
wired. Just like language, words and their meanings it is the basic
bootstrapping on which everything else is built.
Very few people manage to throw is off because it is foundational.

No religion should be persecuted, nor should it persecute in anyway.

Unfortunately Christianity in particular has a persecution complex and
sees it where there isn't any. Its followers can't live and let live,
and instead of thinking about the negative reaction they lie about
hatred for Christianity, anti-Christian etc. When it's really a case
of "push people and they push back".

A religion should be open, should not require money, becuase...and I
could be wrong...when Jesus(fiction, but good fiction in my
eyes...nice morality tales etc) said "Kingdom of Heaven is in us all"
I think it's possible to say that he may have been trying to tell us

praise. We can do that for five minutes by just shutting our eyes and
being thankfull. In my book , if there's a God, he wont want much from
us...he is God after all.

If you believe in it.
The problem is that those who do don't understand the real world
outside it. Especially the people who don't believe as they do.

A religion should be open, should not require money, becuase...and I
could be wrong...when Jesus(fiction, but good fiction in my
eyes...nice morality tales etc) said "Kingdom of Heaven is in us all"
I think it's possible to say that he may have been trying to tell us
that we can pray anytime, God does not need our money, he wants our
praise. We can do that for five minutes by just shutting our eyes and
being thankfull. In my book , if there's a God, he wont want much from
us...he is God after all.

If you believe in it.

The problem is that those who do don't understand the real world
outside it. Especially the people who don't believe as they do.- Hide quoted text -

- Show quoted text -

I agree with you. Religion is a massive hot bed in our world's
collective culture at the moment. Christianity is not alone in it's
persecution complex, it's there in all global religions (including the
so-called religion CO$).
I just think that if there is a God he didn't exactly plan it this
way...but how am I meant to understand a being such as God? I'm
not...there's the catch.
Science will never be able to explain everything. I don't think it
should. The imagination to me is my faith. So long as I can day dream
and imagine I am happy.
I think religion is slowly digging it's own grave. I think there is a
need to legally remove it from politics (I for one am appauled that in
the House of Lords, which is itself outdated, has Church
Representative making political when they are unelected by the
majority....) let them stand as MP's like everyone else and stop the
assumption that they can speak for everyone when the athiest and
secular are not represented by them.
Or have a Ministery for Morality...although that sounds a bit creepy
and Orwellian so maybe not.
I guess religion is always going to be around. "God" is a crafty
concept that can neither be proved nor disproved...CO$ on the other
hand is based in science which CAN be empirically tested...so why
isn't it handled by a health and safety executive?

I didn't think the Bishops ever voted in the upper house. While there
was no law preventing it, it was a respected precedent.
But like you, I am against an un-elected upper house.
I used to know a hereditary peer of the realm, who lived in a semi in
a middle class suburb. He used to attend the House of Lords once or
twice a year if it was something he felt necessary. He was active in
local politics, being a democratically elected Labour councilor
(pre-Blair)..

Or have a Ministery for Morality...although that sounds a bit creepy

The trouble is, it is merely one of bazillions of equally un-necessary
and irrelevant things that can't be either.
If you don't already believe there is no reason to propose it because
there is nothing that points in that direction. I have no problem with
people believing things on faith as long as it doesn't impact the rest
of us. Unfortunately it does, far too often.
Just as I have no problem with somebody getting themselves drunk as
long as it doesn't impact anybody else. It's their decision. But when
they get in a car it directly affects everybody else.
The same with religion. Or pot smoking.
Unfortunately too many believers talk about it as though it were real,
use it to tell us why we shouldn't fart in bed etc. And when they do
that they have to be prepared to prove it.
Quoting the bible as the poster did, is just plain stupid, as well as
a tacit admission that they can't.
And unfortunately their only alternative to this is "you can't prove
it doesn't" - as though that made it so.
I grew up in England and emigrated to the US in 1989 when I got a
promotion to my employer's HQ.
It's a different world here, where religion is imposed. Where they
still have law suits over creationism being taught in schools. Where
the previous President Bush said atheists shouldn't be citizens. Where
atheists are pariahs. Where "under God" was added to the national
loyalty oath imposed on schoolkids. Where atheists are slandered and
libelled every day in the mass media. Where candidates have to be
overtly religious to stand a chance of being elected and part of this
is dumping on atheists.

Religion is a fraud that time has passed. It may
have been needed in humanity's infancy, but it
has long done more harm than good. It's long
past time to put it out to pasture and let it die
out. That is the only way humanity will survive
without destroying itself. Religion kills. The only
way I can see for us all to survive is Secular
Humanism - people working together in peace,
advancing education for all, supporting science
research and medical care for all and supporting
the arts and creating jobs and job training
programs. The religious frauds in the White
House are against all of this, and you can see
the mess we are all in.

Thanks Greg, It’s a truism, that the closer we get to God the simple
things get. It takes the powers of God to make things simple, and the
Spirit of God within you to enjoy it. However, since dark minds of
religious leaders like the complex things that only they can grasp,
rather than the simple statements that everyone can benefit, they tend
to over this simple truth.

Can you explain, the man that appeared to me in a field?
He said, I was going to get hurt.
The other children ran away from him, they all saw the same man.
I was hurt by this man, he bruise my right heel to the very bone.
I was only six years old, I did know the LDS faith then, I was a
member of the Baptist church.
I thought the Devil was some sort of creature, but I was wrong.
He look just like us, and he's a gentleman.
And how do you explain that my mother was running to help me, because
she was sleeping at the time, and saw me fall and get hurt, and she
knew, and was on her way to help me.
And how the man that hurt me, how did he disappear in to the thin air?
And how do you explain that the man in the bible called God forsaw me
getting hurt by the Satan?
(Moses 4: 21)
21 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, between thy
seed and her seed; and he [Joshua] shall bruise thy head, and thou
shalt bruise his heel.
(Gen. 3: 15)
15 And I will put aenmity between thee and the woman, and between
thy seed and her seed; bit shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt
bruise his heel.

Now, RetroProphet, I am not saying that we can blame the Devil for
everything, but then I am not like everyone, my story is different,
and I am the only one claiming to have been harmed by the Satan.
And you can't find another person who has had his heel bruise by
Satan, not even Jesus had his heel bruise, I am the only one in
history who had a man dress in black appear to him and have his heel
bruise.
