Object: Remember W.C. Fields at Xmas.
That great comedian, W.C. Fields, who also happened to have avoided
belief in an invisible sky-pixie, died on 25 Dec, 1946.
(I realize that this news is getting a tad on the stale side.
Still, it's more up-to-date than anything the creationists can come up
with.)
So, on Xmas, you may want celebrate the life of this man, (who
actually existed, as opposed to Jeebers), and who shared at least 3 of
my non-passions:
* not believing in any gods.
* not believing in moderation, with respect to good alcohol**.
* not believing in moderation, with respect to bad women. ;)
I'll drink to that, M'Chickadee!
After all, a man who hates dogs and gods, can't be all bad...
(Omnes: Groan at this point.)

Fields gave this rationale for not drinking water

I heard he was on his death bed when a friend visited and caught him
reading a Bible. He said he was looking for loopholes.

I'm not so sure about that. I bought a bottle of some sort of American
whiskey when I was in Minnesota once. It came in a plastic bottle,
which should have set the alarm bells ringing, and tasted like a cross
between toilet cleaner and lighter fuel. Or at least what I imagine
those things to taste like.
Similarly horrible was a white tequila which I found in Texas. It had
a little hat on the top.
I've learned to avoid any form of alcohol which doesn't deserve a
glass bottle or which has an obvious gimmick glued to it.

On the whole, I'd rather be in Philadelphia.
