Respects diversity in others.... |
My daughter attends a Catholic primary school (5th grade). I noticed on
her report card that one of the social skills they grade on is "Respects
diversity in others". I am not sure how such respect is measured. I
suspect that it is a subjective assessment by the teacher. However, given
that the fundamentalist Christians, who are currently enjoying a rise in
power and popularity, are famous for their intolerance of anyone outside
their group, I find it encouraging that the RCC finds value in "Respecting
diversity in others."
I suspect that if you dig deep enough, you will find some diversity that
is not respected. Also, the RCC has a long history of not being so
tolerant of diversity when it had much more political power than it does
now. Still, for such a large and influential organization, it is good to
know that they at least care about it enough to include it on a 5th
grader's report card.

Is she also graded on "Growing in awareness of the Lord's presence"? My
nieces and nephew are. Thought that was totally bizarre.
BTW, no "Respecting diversity in others" on their reports cards.
