Robertson Right, Demoncrats Lie Again |
It's an outrage that a God fearing, Bush loving hero is forced to apologize
for comments that the lieberals claim to support. Before the war in Iraq the
demoncrats constantly stated that there were other ways to get Saddam
including assassination. Odd that when Robertson promotes that tactic with
an equally cruel and barbaric war lard known as Hugo Chavez the liebrals cry
their crocodile tears. The demoncrats have once again proved that they only
support issues if they're the opposite of what Republicans believe. The
lieberals have no real values. If they did they would be consistent and
support assassination.
US preacher says sorry for urging assassination of Chavez 24 minutes ago
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Conservative US preacher Pat Robertson apologized for
urging Washington to assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, then went
on to compare him to Saddam Hussein and to suggest the United States
could one day be at war with his oil-rich country.

"Is it right to call for assassination? No, and I apologize for that
statement. I spoke in frustration," Robertson said in a lengthy
"clarification" posted on his website.
The former presidential candidate and staunch supporter of US President
George W. Bush said the world was ignoring the threat posed by "the
out-of-control dictator of Venezuela."
Chavez, he said, "has found common cause with terrorists," is reportedly
seeking nuclear technology from Iran and "intends to fund the violent
overthrow of democratically elected governments throughout South America,
beginning with neighboring Colombia."
"I said before the war in Iraq began that the wisest course would be to
wage war against Saddam Hussein, not the whole nation of Iraq. When faced
with the threat of a comparable dictator in our own hemisphere, would it not
be wiser to wage war against one person rather than finding ourselves down
the road locked in a bitter struggle with a whole nation?"
Chavez, a twice-elected leftist and close ally of Cuban President Fidel
Castro, has often said Washington would like to assassinate him, and accuses
the Bush administration of orchestrating a coup d'etat that toppled him for
47 hours in April 2002.
During his television show, "The 700 Club," on Monday, Robertson had said of
Chavez: "I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks
we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead
and do it."
"Without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a
huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly," Robertson added. Venezuela
is the fourth provider of oil to the United States.
The incendiary remarks came at the close of a long report by Robertson's
Christian Broadcasting Network news team on Chavez's anti-US rhetoric and
growing links to Communist Cuba and Arab nations.
The State Department said Wednesday that US ambassador to Caracas William
Brownfield had been in contact with a Venezuelan government official over
the remarks.
"The message that we conveyed was the same one you heard from me at the
podium yesterday," spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters.
Tuesday, Washington distanced itself from Robertson's comments but did not
explicitly condemn them.
"I would say that Pat Robertson is a private citizen and that his views do
not represent the policy of the United States," McCormack said, describing
the comments as "inappropriate."
"As we have said before, any allegations that we are planning to take
hostile action against the Venezuelan government are completely baseless and
without fact," McCormack added.
The US press blasted Robertson's remarks Wednesday.
"Televangelist Pat Robertson handed President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela a
huge and politically useful gift this week," said the Miami Herald.
Other dailies said the preacher had forgotten his scripture, referring to
the Christian commandment, "Thou shalt not kill."
"Mr Robertson has said other stupid things in the course of his career, but
this is especially shocking even by his standards," said the Post-Gazette of
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Before issuing the apology Wednesday, Robertson tried to argue that his
comments had been misinterpreted.
"I said our special forces should, quote, 'take him out,' and 'take him out'
can be a number of things, including kidnapping," Robertson, 75, said on his
television show, broadcast from his headquarters in Virginia Beach,
Virginia.

Greens and Libertarians win seats on occassion. Hell, we even elect
