Barbarian bonanza
By Anthony Everitt
Published : 24 June 2005
On or about 4 September 476 AD a boy of 14 was deposed as Roman emperor
in the West. His successor, a German captain of mercenaries, knew
better than to appoint himself emperor, for there was next to nothing
left to rule. Most of northern Africa and Europe were now in the hands
of tribes ("barbarians" as the Romans called them dismissively) which
had broken through imperial frontiers and grabbed as much land as they
could.

Okay, maff, what is this about? This news is, like, kind of old.
When you make these posts could you include some kind of explanation
as to why?
Please?
I for one will display a lot more interest if I can fathom out a
reason why it might be important.
