Sarin "WMD" Appears MAGICALLY In Iraq In Time For U.S. Elections |
Claims have already been made that this proves and justifies the coalitions
invasion of Iraq.
So let me get this straight. Hundreds of billions of dollars, thousands and
thousands of lives, the virtual destruction of an entire country and a
thousand fold world wide increase in the danger of terrorism is justified by
the sudden appearance of one shoddy 13 year old sarin shell, which for some
reason wasn't found in the last year or so of the entire country being
turned over and over again, but MAGICALLY appears "by the side of the road"
just in time for the U.S. election???

"A detonation occurred before the IED could be rendered inoperable. This
produced a very small dispersal of agent," he said. The incident occurred

that's a very different thing from having stockpiles and supplies," he said.

Good thing they got prompt treatment for Sarin poisoning. Even better
good thing that the enemy fighters who made the IED apparantly didn't
know what they had or how to use it properly. Now that they know what to
look for, and possibly where to look for more of the same, I wouldn't be
so sanguine about it.

It is the remarkable coincidence that tickles our attention.
The first Iraq war was over how many years? The UN inspectors have

How long did it take them to find the big stockpile the first time?
Two years, wasn't it?

had advance warning of every move they made from his pocket pals in the
UN.

The timing's still not that great. Closer to the election would have
been better. They haven't even had the conventions yet. That usually
gets both sides an uptick or two.
Or last year sometime, but we caught up to Saddam instead. ;-)

From my reading we phased Sarin (aka GB) out in favor of VX but we could
make it easily enough. Again, it makes a nice story but keeping a
conspiracy like that under wraps isn't possible in RL.

Surprise! What they are not saying is that nerve agents, such as Sarin
are unstable and have a relatively short shelf life, especially if they
are exposed to moisture or air. This is why most armies use the 'binary'
shells in which the components for making the Sarin are kept separate
and mixed just before delivery as the shell is flying through the air.
However, these components will eventually degrade themselves, how fast
or how slow depending on the construction of the shell and storage
conditions.
I think that the fact that "Two explosive ordnance team members were
treated for minor exposure to nerve agent," indicates that the shell was
rather old and could be from before the first war. If the Sarin
components were active, those team members would be dead. It could have
well been declared 'obsolete' before the second war and discarded in a
junkyard somewhere.

That makes sense of a comment I heard from some military person on NPR this
morning. He said that firing the shell was part of the delivery mechanism.
If it was a binary then all that would be produced woould probably be a
small amount by chance.

war.
The former Swedish foreign minister said the 155-mm shell used to
attack a US military convoy Monday could have been part of a group of
old, unused shells that were simply debris leftover from the war in
1991, adding the weapon could have been scavenged from a dump.
"It doesn't sound absurd at all. There can be debris from the past
and that's a very different thing from having stockpiles and
supplies," he said.
Surprise! What they are not saying is that nerve agents, such as Sarin
are unstable and have a relatively short shelf life, especially if
they are exposed to moisture or air. This is why most armies use the
'binary' shells in which the components for making the Sarin are kept
separate and mixed just before delivery as the shell is flying through
the air.
This was a binary shell.
However, these components will eventually degrade themselves,
how fast or how slow depending on the construction of the shell and
storage conditions.
They have a fairly long half-life as long as they're not exposed to air.
I think that the fact that "Two explosive ordnance team members were
treated for minor exposure to nerve agent," indicates that the shell
was rather old and could be from before the first war. If the Sarin
components were active, those team members would be dead. It could
have well been declared 'obsolete' before the second war and discarded
in a junkyard somewhere.
If the components hadn't been reacting in a *fired* shell on the way to
a target, there wouldn't be that much Sarin produced.

Sarin nerve agent released in capital
From correspondents in Baghdad
May 18, 2004
A ROADSIDE bomb containing the nerve agent sarin exploded near an
American military convoy in Baghdad, the US military said today.
It was the first confirmed finding of any of the banned weapons upon
which the United States based its case for the Iraq war.
"The Iraqi Survey Group confirmed today that a 155-mm artillery round
containing sarin nerve agent had been found," said Brigadier-General
Mark Kimmitt, the chief military spokesman in Iraq. "The round had
been rigged as an IED (improvised explosive device), which was
discovered by a US force convoy.
"A detonation occurred before the IED could be rendered inoperable.
This produced a very small dispersal of agent," he said. The incident
occurred two days ago, he said.
"Two explosive ordnance team members were treated for minor exposure
to nerve agent," he said.

Sarin not evidence of WMD: Blix
By Matt Moore in Sweden
May 18, 2004
FORMER chief UN weapons inspector Hans Blix said that a shell
containing sarin nerve gas used in an attack in Iraq was most likely
a stray weapon possibly from the first Gulf War.
Mr Blix said today that the discovery of the nerve agent was not a
sign that Saddam Hussein's regime possessed weapons of mass
destruction before the war last year.
The US-led coalition used that claim to justify the invasion even
though UN inspectors failed to make any significant finds before the

I think on this one, I'll wait until the shell and its contents are
completely analyzed before making any final judgment.

Why would the Democrats need an excuse? If they had been in

now, instead using Afghanistan as a cover for operations in Iraq.

So let me get this straight. Hundreds of billions of dollars,
thousands and thousands of lives, the virtual destruction of an
entire country and a thousand fold world wide increase in the
danger of terrorism is justified by the sudden appearance of one
shoddy 13 year old sarin shell, which for some reason wasn't
found in the last year or so of the entire country being turned
over and over again, but MAGICALLY appears "by the side of the
road" just in time for the U.S. election???
Actually, check this:
http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/story.jsp?story=522047
"Donald Rumsfeld, the US Defence Secretary, personally authorised
a loosening of the rules under which military personnel could
attempt to squeeze information from detainees in prisons in Iraq,
setting the stage for the abuse scandal that has now engulfed the
White House, according to The New Yorker magazine."
And just as this started making the rounds, *suddenly* we find
Sarin! Weapons! In! Iraq!
In short, Rummy *did create the program that led to the abuse that
threatens the administration. Expect rabbits to be coming out
desperately out of the hat of Iraq and being tossed with abandon
to throw people off *that trail...
Gee, what a coincidence! If Bush's approval rating goes down
another five points will we find anthrax?
I hear Rove is desperately trying to find bin Laden so he can drag
him to the convention...
I'm still convinced that bin Laden is still being held prisoner in a
small cell in the basement of the Pentagon and by some strange
coincidence will arrange to be 'captured' just at the most opportune
moment.
I'm not convinced this administration competent enough to pull off a
conspiracy...
I don't know. When it comes to diplomacy, economics, and the US
Constitution, they are dunces. However, when it comes to skullduggery ,
dirty tricks, spinning the truth, and outright prevarication, they are
proven masters.
I don't even buy that. I think they are utterly stupid and fundamentally
incompetent.
The only reason they've gotten away with so much is the public has its
collective head shoved up its *****...

100's of Billions of $ and thousands of lives justified by finding a

I really don't think that will fly.
