School official surrenders in sex-sting probe

Grand Junction - The athletic director at Grand Junction High School
surrendered to police early today on suspicion of using the Internet to
suggest a sexual act with someone he thought was a teenage girl.
The case against Donald John Walker, 48, is based on statements and
evidence from an informant who is not a police officer, authorities
said.
Walker is suspected of Internet luring of a child and enticement of a
child, both felonies.
Walker surrendered at the Mesa County jail shortly after 2 a.m. today,
police spokeswoman Linda Bowman said. He has been on paid administrative
leave since April 4, when school district officials were notified of the
investigation.
An arrest warrant affidavit released Wednesday said the informant posed
as a 14-year-old girl on the Internet and kept copies of online messages
from Walker in which he discussed sexual acts.
Bowman said the informant gave copies of the messages to KKCO-TV in
Grand Junction and the station contacted police about the material.
Officer Jeremiah Boies wrote in the affidavit that Walker confirmed to
police on April 6 that two online names used in the messages to the
informant, "johnnieloveslaughter" and "johnniewalker59," were his.
Walker told police he thought the person he was chatting with on the
Internet was an ex-girlfriend posing as a 14-year-old girl. Boise said
the woman, whom he did not identify, denied the claim.
Boies said police contacted the informant and confirmed his identity.
The informant said he created a fake Internet identity as
"pink-polka-dotzzz" and chatted online with "johnnieloveslaughter" and
"johnniewalker59."
The affidavit says the informant was using techniques he learned about
from the group Perverted Justice. On its website, Perverted Justice says
its trained contributors pose as children on the Internet and, if they
are solicited for sex by adults, work with police.
