Object: Second Thoughts?
This has probably been discussed before on alt.atheism, but I haven't
seen this lately. As a recovering Catholic and later born again
protestant, I pride myself on my maturity and rationality in rejecting
the absurd doctrines I was brainwashed with most of my life, still does
anyone else wake up in the middle of night, wondering if there might
actually be a fiery hell awaiting all us non-believers? There is other
odd unexpected stuff in this universe, hell, it might be true that some
vengeful Jewish God made us all to test us and then killed his Son to
save us, crazier ***** has been shown to be true, (e.g. subatomic
particles that change they behavior when observed, etc.). Comments?

And you expected it to be all about?
Religion?

Well, that is what my Catholic SILs keep telling me ;)

What does the Catholic laity know about Catholicism?

The conditioning is extremely malevolent. It takes time to eliminate
the garbage programming. Keep in mind with an omni character there's
no 'testing' or 'free will.' Of course, it doesn't exist nor does its
torture chamber.

Hey! I had a Catholic wedding :)

I was actually at a Catholic funeral this past Saturday. Can you believe
the priest actually said that he hoped the deceased had remembered the
church in her will?

Certainly.

As my ex-Catholic husband always says "the Catholic
church is all about money" :P

People who don't believe in it don't believe in it. I know that may
sound silly, but think about it.

Nothing crazy about that.
But a perfect, omni-benevolent god that would create us only to have
us burn in hell forever? Don't you realize that Christianity is a
self-contradiction?

What the *****, Puck? George here is asking a serious question.
Many atheists, myself included, were born into the brainwashing of
Christiantiy. I was Luthern for 16 years of my life and then bounced
around for 5, baptist, church of god, etc... Even after I stopped
attending all church and knew in my heart that there was no god, it
took me another 5 years of hard work to admit out loud that I was an
atheist.
Don't dimiss someone just because they are having a hard time of it.

To be an atheist is to accept doubt and reject psychological crutches.
I do not know God doesn't exist, only feel that it is unreasonable to
believe He does, given the evidence.
It follows that I have to consider whether or not I am wrong in this
judgement and God the creator does exist.
One thing I do not fear is Hell, because it is the most ridiculous
peice of stupidity ever imagined and the idea that you go there just
because you're not a Christian is absurd too.
If there is a God and it is wise, it will not punish, but teach;
because punishment is a form of abuse and abuse only makes people worse
than they are, whereas teaching corrects the true cause of evil:
ignorance.
The god portrayed in The Bible is a brat, unworthy of respect, leave
alone worship. He is merely the biggest imaginable bully, parasite and
goad for barbarism.
If God really exists, it may challenge you more than anything else
could, but there is no reason to fear it if you've been honest with
yourself.

The dogma is crazy, absurd, laughable. A person would have to be insane to
believe it. It never made sense to me, even when I was earnestly trying to
be a believer.
