In the publishing business, it must be some kind of record:
175 years after the manuscript is completed, it finally gets
picked up by a big time New York City publishing house.
The announcement last week that the Book of Mormon will be
published by Doubleday comes exactly 175 summers since
June 1829, when Joseph Smith Jr. first approached Egbert
B. Grandin, a printer in Palmyra, N.Y., to print a
manuscript of about 270,000 words that Smith said was
a translation off golden plates he'd found in a nearby
hill after an angel told him where they were.
Doubleday says it will charge $25 for its "secular"
edition, meaning the book will be presented in regular
paragraph form, without footnotes and scriptural
chapters and verses.

"And it came to pass" will make for rather ugly reading in paragraph
form -- not quite as noticeable when broken into verses, IMO.
In the German version brackets replaced the phrase. Perhaps they will
do something similar.

Hmm... that's actually pretty creative from a marketing standpoint.
The Christians should consider doing the same: It would sure make the
Bible more readable if they ever came out with a modern-language,
paragraph-format edition.
Or maybe verse?
Twas the night before Creation
and all through the place
invisible Pixie moved
o'er the face
of the waters a thinkin'
"what's Pixie to do
with this vast formless void?"
and so Pixie did hew
out the form of dry land
using all of his might
and, yearning to view it,
spake "Let there be light"...
Ah, the possibilities...

"They" have.

The funniest Bible edition I ever saw was a "modernised" one they had
in the library at my (Christian) high school: it had David and
Jonathan shaking hands instead of embracing and kissing each other...
