Seeking peaceful transitions of power |
I'm looking for instances throughout human history where a country replaced an
established system of government with a new one without having gone through
either a war or some sort of social/economic collapse first. Something along
the lines of what would happen if the U.S. were to suddenly just trash its old
constitution and write a new one from scratch, or where Great Britain's
citizenry decided to dispense with the monarchy and converted peacefully into
more of a republic like the U.S. just because its people wanted to.
Researching on my own, of course, but any pointers from anyone else would be
appreciated. Thanks. :-)

France didn't replace all of its constitutions after wars, did it?

Check out Czechoslovakia at the end of communism. They went from a
communist state to a democracy peacefully, then the Czechs and Slovaks
split on good terms.
