I suppose you could call them gods, they were stones, stones that had
once been human. Venerated by the Lapps, they were decorated in
greenery & used as oracles. You ask a question, and then try to lift
the stone. If the stone became so heavy you could not lift it, then the
answer would be negative. It's a stone was very large, you had to guess
the correct answer or your hands would remain with the stone forever. On
occasion they can return to human shape but they had to turn back to
stone
.
