A former Miss Black California is coming to Bradenton on Monday to tell
teens to put sex on hold until they are married.
Lakita Garth, author of "The Naked Truth," will address students in
Manatee high schools throughout the day via a televised broadcast by
METV.
Monday evening Garth will be the keynote speaker at the Teen Pregnancy
Prevention Task Force's Youth Rally at the Manatee Civic and Convention
Center.
Teens and parents should go prepared for straight talk, said Karen
Stewart, chairwoman of the prevention task force.
Garth tells it like it is, which is why she connects so well with
teenagers, according to Barbara Harvey, who sits on the Manatee County
School Board and the prevention task force.
Garth advocates abstinence until marriage.
On her Web site, Garth defines abstinence as mastering the art of
self-control and self-discipline and the delay of self-gratification.
She has devoted her life to helping teens realize that unless they
master those three skills they cannot succeed in life.
