Object: semi-OT: What could influence -you- to voluntarily shut off your sexuality?
That's it, it's a pretty simple question for once. What condition or event
might influence you to voluntarily give up any and all sexual feelings for the
rest of your life?
To give you an idea of how I mean that question, I'm not looking for any "bribe"
scenarios. For instance, someone offers to pay you money in exchange for your
testicles, or someone is threatening to do something horrible to someone you
love if you don't do it. Such scenarios are potentially endless.
The condition or event should in some way be relevant to the act of abandoning
your sexuality. For instance, you might choose to have your sexuality removed
if you found yourself suddenly prone to violent sexual urges and feared that you
might not be able to refrain from acting on them.
That last sentence, btw, was me a few years ago. And at the time, I -did-
consider it. It never went that far, fortunately, and everything is nicely
under control. But there is one other reason I can think of for giving up my
sexuality - that would be higher education. If I were offered a chance to take
an education in the subject of my choice as far as I could go with it (i.e., all
the way to the doctorate level if I could make it that far), and becoming
asexual were the sole condition, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Sexuality is
relevant to the subject of higher education - at least in my case - for one very
simple reason: If I were to go to college now as fully sexual as I am, I'd
never get anything done. I'd be much too distracted by all the college boys, it
would just lead me to academic ruin. Without sexuality, I could obsess over
making the most out of my education rather than obsessing over some of my fellow
students.
YMMV. That's it for now - just curious as always. :-)

I would only consider it if I was in a position where I would never be in a
position to excercise my sexuality anymore.
Now I could see PLENTY of reasons for a **temporary** cessation of sexual
feelings. That could be very useful.

In my mind, the only reason to do as you propose is if my sexuality was
certain to cause irreparable harm to myself or someone else.
I can only think of two situations in which this might occur. First is
contracting a life-threatening STD. Second is uncontrollable predatory
behavior.

Childhood sexual abuse, followed by a complete hysterectomy at age 24,
followed by a breaking of an engagement when the fiancee found that
children were not possible, followed by the cessation of hormone
replacements when they began to cause lumps, followed by..... pfffftt,
forget the whole thing!

LOL! Really! I mean, it's not like I don't enjoy it (believe me, I do), I
would just rather go to sleep 95 percent of the time ;)
