Sen. Brownback is a Loon |
And this idiot is thinking of running for president?

Sen. Brownback (R-KS) Blocks Judicial Nominee just because She Attended
a Lesbian "Commitment Ceremony" in 2002 for a Friend
Created 11/27/2006 - 2:23pm
A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT
Four years ago, Janet Neff went to a lesbian "commitment ceremony" for
her friend and next-door neighbor of more than two decades. Now, her
nomination for a federal judgeship in Michigan is being blocked [1] by
religious zealot and right-winger Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) for no
other reason than his homophobia
Janet Neff explained in October that the commitment ceremony did not
purport to be a marriage, had no legal effect whatsoever, and that she
did not preside or act in any official capacity. But that doesn't seem
to be enough for Brownback, who is using Senate procedure to place a
"hold" on her nomination. "What I want to know is what does it do to her
look at the law?" he said yesterday.
Maybe Brownback did not get the memo that his conservative ideology
received a resounding kick to the groin a few weeks ago in the
elections. Brownback is on the verge of announcing his candidacy [2] for
the White House and is apparently trying his hardest to replace Rick
Santorum as the Senate's biggest wacko [3].
It turns out that Michigan Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow had
worked out a generous package deal [4] with President Bush to agree to
the appointments of Neff and two conservatives for judgeships in their
state months ago while the Republicans still controlled the Senate. But
as Brownback maintains his hold on Neff, Levin and Stabenow are holding
the other two candidates in protest, leaving three slots on the bench
unfilled.
If Brownback is serious about reviving the religious right movement for
a possible presidential bid, this ridiculousness may be a sign of things
to come. With the tremendous power enjoyed by individual senators to
stall and defeat nominations and legislation, Brownback may take it upon
himself to block everything he possibly can to make a name for himself
and appease his base.
Democrats need to make sure Brownback justly embarrasses his party
during the next term without letting him hijack their agenda.

Hey, you know Sen Macaca was thinking of running for prez as well at one
point. Wouldn't they have made a great 1-2 ticket for the Republicans?

That's right. The females leave the males there all winter with the eggs. The
males all huddle into each other under the pretense of keeping warm. :-)

Brownback is one of the worst of the worst. If you had read the Rolling
Stone article about him a few months ago, you'd be truly frightened,
and you'd get the hell out of Kansas.

With him, I don't know if i'd even want to drive through Kansas.
He is hardly ever here in Kansas, which is one of the major complaints
against him by many Kansans. But just one of them, there are quite a few
others.
I don't know if you saw him last Sunday on 'This Week' . He is creepy.
No, but I agree he is creepy, has been for years.
From the local news channel, WIBW, it Topeka-a poll:
What is your reaction to Sam Brownback officially announcing he'll explore
a
run for the Presidency in 2008?
1. Good idea - a good candidate 26.5 %
2. Bad idea- not a good candidate 56.1 %
3. Undecided at this point 17.4 %

It is on the right side of the home page.
Seems the locals don't much like him anymore than I do. (OK, so I am a
local
myself, but I am from out of state and have only been here 20 some years.)
Which means you aren't a 'local' since your family hasn't been there for
generations?
Well, my dad was born here in Kansas, just north of here, I guess I could
claim at least 2 generations. But I am from Pennsylvania originally, but
lived all over the east coast for my early years then ended up growing up in
northern Missouri. Then I joined the Navy and spent years overseas or in
California.
Later I ended up here and there in eastern Kansas, mostly Lawrence and
Topeka. I am about as much a local as anyone these days.

Sen. Brownback (R-KS) Blocks Judicial Nominee just because She
Attended a Lesbian "Commitment Ceremony" in 2002 for a Friend
"What I want to know is what does it do to
her look at the law?" he said yesterday.
Maybe Brownback did not get the memo that his conservative ideology
received a resounding kick to the groin a few weeks ago in the
elections. Brownback is on the verge of announcing his candidacy [2]
for the White House and is apparently trying his hardest to replace
Rick Santorum as the Senate's biggest wacko [3].
It turns out that Michigan Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow had
worked out a generous package deal [4] with President Bush to agree to
the appointments of Neff and two conservatives for judgeships in their
state months ago while the Republicans still controlled the Senate. But
as Brownback maintains his hold on Neff, Levin and Stabenow are holding
the other two candidates in protest, leaving three slots on the bench
unfilled.
If Brownback is serious about reviving the religious right movement for
a possible presidential bid, this ridiculousness may be a sign of
things to come. With the tremendous power enjoyed by individual
senators to stall and defeat nominations and legislation, Brownback may
take it upon himself to block everything he possibly can to make a name
for himself and appease his base.
Democrats need to make sure Brownback justly embarrasses his party
during the next term without letting him hijack their agenda.
