Sen. Ron Gould, unplugged ... Gould, an imposing crew-cut-wearing
conservative firebrand from Lake Havasu, has had a knack for grabbing
headlines since his surprise 2004 election.
First, there was the tidbit we broke before he took office that he flies
the Confederate battle flag outside his house, along with flags from other
wars.
And when Gould thought he was being treated unfairly during a Clean
Elections investigation for a campaign finance violation last year, he
famously said, "if I were a baby-killing left-winger, this wouldn't be
happening to me."
Now he's been discovered by local television news. Gould was the subject of
an interview that aired Wednesday night with KNXV-TV reporter Steve Irvin,
who quizzed the senator about flying the Confederate flag and other
controversial stances. Gould defended flying the flag for its historic
value, saying it was not meant to be offensive.
When Irvin asked, "As a White male, what gives you the right to judge
what's offensive to a Black person?" Gould responded, "I think we're done
here," got up and ended the interview.
He did come back and went on to say "the U.S. is a Christian nation founded
by Christian men," and "the separation of church and state is to keep the
government out of the church, not to keep the church out of the
government."
He also opined that homosexuals should not be allowed to work as
schoolteachers.
The state Democratic Party sent out a news release calling attention to the
interview. But the interesting thing about Gould is that the more people
who disagree with him complain about the things he says and does, the
happier he seems.

I wish that the american political system worked as a random lottery.
Think of all the really smart caring folks that would have good paying jobs.
American people great. American politicians armed and dangerous.
