I was listening to a NPR show yesterday where they were briefly
discussing attitudes toward religion in Europe. I came in late, had to
leave before it was over, so I couldn't make out whether the person
being interviewed thought Europeans were nuts or Americans, but I was
sure wishing my ancestors had never sought their fortunes over here.
Sometimes when I look at Americans posting to this newsgroup I'm startled by
the anti-religion vehemence. Here in the UK church going ,serious
(non-nominal) Christians are more like a rather curious "minority group" to
be protected than something to get worked up against and oppose.

This country is sick - sick with religion, homophobia and rampant
selfishness. It disgusts me that all eleven of the anti-gay marriage
questions passed. It disgusts me that Congress makes damn sure that
they get health care and to hell with everybody else. The war in Iraq
both disgusts me and scares me: we'll reap what we sowed there for
hundreds of years to come. And of course the religious agenda of our
politicians is just plain ugly.
Yes, they've been wiping their arses with the Constitution for years.
Its been an epedemic since 2001.
I'm 56 years old and my wife isn't well. It's too damn late to pick up
and move somewhere else. But I wish it were not.
I'm stuck as well, being 100% medically disabled military.
I value the ideals of this country - the things I was taught, the

look likely. I'm disgusted and angry, but life still has to go on. I
have places to be and work to do.

I hear you there. I was considering moving back to the PA area to be near my
parents as they age, but now I'm considering skipping the "Stay with them until
they die" bit entirely and just heading straight to the Netherlands (which,
assuming they die any time before I do, is the plan at present, even if all is
going well in this country in my view).

Well, the SOL was used in the "Planet of the Apes" movie as a reminder
of how dangerous our country and the bomb is. It was the chimps who
came out ahead, or did they? Hmm...
There was one sequel where some underground people still worshipped
the "bomb," but there wasn't a chimp in control of the button to
launch the "bomb," iirc.
I think we should go back to recognizing the SOL/ sun, and
everyone should realize the solstices for what they are, especially
with the winter solstice coming up. :)
