Thousands Take a Stand for Family in North Carolina
Last night, Focus on the Family Action and FRC Action kicked off the first
of six "Take a Stand for Family" rallies. Thousands of area Christians
gathered at Cricket Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina, to hear Dr. Dobson,
Bishop Wellington Boone, Gary Bauer and myself. Dr. Dobson highlighted the
recent attacks on the family through "imperious, unelected judges" that are
attempting to force same-sex "marriage" on America.
I challenged Christians to engage our culture on two fronts - spiritually by
taking a stand for the family on our knees and praying and interceding for
our nation, and secondly, by being involved politically. I encouraged them
to vote, to support Christian candidates with their time and money and to
consider running for office. Bishop Boone inspired those in attendance to
take their faith to the streets and stand against those attempting to
redefine marriage and family. Tonight we expect over 10,000 people to take a
stand for family in Raleigh, North Carolina.
We hope you can join us at upcoming rallies in Louisiana on Sept. 27th and
28th and in South Dakota on Oct. 4th and 5th. Please visit

Congress Returns to Action
This week marks the beginning of the final legislative push before the
election and there will be some important votes that shouldn't be ignored.
This week, the House will consider an appropriations bill which contains
conscience protection language to protect hospitals and other health care
providers from governmental discrimination when they refuse to provide, pay
for, or refer for abortions. Pro-abortion advocates will fight for its
defeat. The House is scheduled to vote on the Federal Marriage Amendment
later this month and there will also likely be votes on an extension of
President Bush's tax relief plan, particularly the per child tax credit and
relief from the marriage penalty. These and other votes will make for a busy
two months and it will be important for your Members of Congress to hear
from you before each vote. The more attention these issues receive the more
they can affect the November elections.

Surprise: Teen Sexual Behavior Linked to Teen TV Viewing
FRC's Genevieve Wood appeared on the Fox Newschannel today to discuss a new
study which shows a direct correlation between teen television habits and
sexual activity. According to a nationwide study by the Rand Corporation
published this month in Pediatrics, children who watch television
programming containing sexual content are almost twice as likely to
experiment with sex as their peers who do not watch such programs.
The study also found that programs that only refer to sex but don't actually
depict it had similar affects. While this may not be shocking news to many
pro-family activists, what may surprise many parents is that approximately
two-thirds of all television programs contain sexual content and the average
teenager watches three hours of television each day. What is further
disturbing is that in the age of so-called "reality" TV, there is very
little reality depicted on most television dramas and comedies about the
repercussions of sexual activity. Whether it's Friends, Will & Grace or Sex
in the City, sex is most often treated as a recreational sport with no
mention of the fact that the United States is experiencing an epidemic of
sexually transmitted diseases. It is estimated that over 15 million new STD
infections occur each year and two-thirds of those in individuals less than
25 years of age.

Gee, how come us atheists don't have high-falutin' fancy titles like the
pompous blowhards do? I mean, if they can be deacons and reverends and Drs
and bishops and etc, why can't we award each other similar titles of great

We can. The only thing stopping us is conscience.

Damn it! Why are we the only ones stuck with such awkward limitations?

Seems to me that an awful lot of Bush-appointed judges are just as
"activist" as any liberal judge you could possibly mention.
I wonder if anyone who complains about "judicial activism" has taken the
time to actually read any of the opinions they find objectionable? Why
aren't they appealing them, and taking issues like this to the Supreme
Court?

One of the consistencies that I've realized about judges which the right
considers "activist" is that the decisions that are most harshly criticized by
them are those which support the rights of the people over the power of the
government. As I've mentioned before, this is a complete and total change from
Republican principles as they were generally known in the past. The GOP used to
be the party supprting individual rights and limiting the power of government.
Now they are the exact opposite and the judges that they appoint are, for the
most part, expanding the power of government at the expense of the people and
the constitution.
The Republicans have become everything they warned us the Liberals were: big
government, spend-a-holic, power-hungry, totalitarians and they're doing it
more than any lefty NYC liberal ever dreamed. By their actions, the Grand Old
Party has become the New Communist Party.
