Allen, whose famous "macaca"-calling has put in doubt his reelection to
the U.S. Senate from the former slave state of Virginia, is now totally
consumed by his alleged racist past. It seems a day doesn't go by
without another boorish bigot tag being hung on his large red neck.

Actually, Allen's ONLY "notable" achievement while Virginia governor
was to get a law passed allowing "citizens" to freely carry firearms
into such places as libraries, gymnasiums, and what constitutes taverns
in
that alcohol-control Bible-belt state. Yeah, the same Virginia, former
Confederate capital, where people were still being lynched as recently
as 1947 (some say into the
1950s). And where whole black-majority counties were denied years of
"public
schooling" during Virginia's diehard resistance to integration after
Brown vs. Board of
Education.
Why would anyone need to be packin' in a library?
Typical Baptist-type hypocrisy.
Actually, the main reason Macaca gets elected to ANY office in "The
Commonwealth" (as the state's 3 million fundamentalists call it) is
because of his father's name. You recall the Hall of Fame Coach of the
REDSKINS, don't ya? The late revered elder George Allen?
Die-hard Skins fans, largely child-adults, think that by voting for
young George, they're somehow voting for his dad and his legacy, and
this makes 'em feel like they're more a part of the Redskins "family,"
actually part of the team!
You know, a lot of folks wish the team name were changed, to remove a
perceived racist tinge. Maybe if young George is reelected, they'll
rename the team the Washington Macacas! The fans'd LOVE it! I know
the Cowboys and Giants would!
I'd hate to see Allen reelected, simply because I sense that deep down
he IS a racist, and a bully, and a phony, and a hothead, and an
unrepentant spoiled brat. But if bigoted Virginians return him to the
Senate, his intended run for president in 2008 will surely bring back
some juicy "macaca memories" of his run against Jim Webb, and bring him
up short. Yes, Allen's racist and red-neck crudities will deny him the
White House, of which he doubtless has visions of nooses and stars and
bars festooning the walls - his boots on the desk and spittoon at the
ready!

Ex-Klansman Robert Byrd, the senior senator from West Virginia, casually
used the phrase "white *****" twice on national TV this weekend.
Enraged civil rights groups organized a protest campaign against Sen.
Byrd and demanded that he undergo sensitivity training ... not.
The ex-Klansman, you see, is a Democrat. Democrats can join hate groups
and utter the ugliest racial slurs and get away with it because they are

The ex-Klansman showed his true colors when asked by Fox News Sunday
morning talk show host Tony Snow about the state of race relations in

white niggers in my time. I'm going to use that word. We just need to
work together to make our country a better country, and I'd just as soon
quit talking about it so much."
The ex-Klansman, famed for Beltway blowhardism, should have quit talking
a lot sooner. Why any prominent politician in his right mind would
publicly and deliberately use the poisonous epithet "*****" -- which
most daily newspapers refuse to spell out, no matter the context -- is
beyond comprehension. It's an open question as to whether the
rant-prone, 83-year-old Byrd is even in his right mind, but senility
doesn't excuse bigotry.
The ex-Klansman's admirers praise his historical knowledge, mastery of
procedural rules, and outspokenness. They refer to the Senate's senior
Democrat as the "conscience of the Senate." They downplay his
white-sheet-wearing days as a "brief mistake" -- as if joining the Klan
were like knocking over a glass of water. Oopsy.
This ex-Klansman wasn't just a passive member of the nation's most
notorious hate group. According to news accounts and biographical
information, Sen. Byrd was a "Kleagle" -- an official recruiter who
signed up members for $10 a head. He said he joined because it "offered
excitement" and because the Klan was an "effective force" in "promoting
traditional American values." Nothing like the thrill of gathering
'round a midnight bonfire, roasting s'mores, tying nooses, and promoting
white supremacy with a bunch of your hooded friends.
The ex-Klansman allegedly ended his ties with the group in 1943. He may
have stopped paying dues, but he continued to pay homage to the KKK.
Republicans in West Virginia discovered a letter Sen. Byrd had written
to the Imperial Wizard of the KKK three years after he says he abandoned
the group. He wrote: "The Klan is needed today as never before and I am
anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia" and "in every state in
the Union."
The ex-Klansman later filibustered the landmark 1964 Civil Rights Act --
supported by a majority of those "mean-spirited" Republicans -- for more
than 14 hours. He also opposed the nominations of the Supreme Court's
two black justices, liberal Thurgood Marshall and conservative Clarence
Thomas. In fact, the ex-Klansman had the gall to accuse Justice Thomas
of "injecting racism" into the Senate hearings. Meanwhile, author Graham
Smith recently discovered another letter Sen. Byrd wrote after he quit
the KKK, this time attacking desegregation of the armed forces.
The ex-Klansman vowed never to fight "with a Negro by my side. Rather I
should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt
never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become
degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the
wilds."

It was overblown insofar as controversies go, and no one has proven
beyond a shadow of a doubt that he intended the meaning to be anything
other than what Allen has said he meant.
What did Allen say he meant? First he said he made it up on the spot.
Then he said it was a word he heard is mom use. Then he apologized for
using a racial epithet.
If you look at the video, the audience is completely aware of what he's
saying. They think it's funny that he's calling a brown-skinned person a
'macaque.' They seem to get the joke, and he seems to be telling a joke.
If you want to argue that they're erupting in laughter because the word
'macaque' sounds funny, then go ahead and try.
"Macaque" are Old World monkeys.
Yup. And that's the word he used. It's pronounced 'macaca.'
The expression as actually used seems to be a neologism:
