Along with fireworks, dumpling eating and gift-giving, a visit to the
cinema to see the latest hesupian - or seasonal celebration movie - is
an essential part of the Chinese new year holiday.
In years gone by, these slickly commercial films usually told
heartwarming tales designed to bring people closer together during the
week-long spring festival, the most important time of the year for
family gatherings.
