The move is part of a government crackdown on graft by China's
president that has focused on prominent political opponents.

Hey, maff..
No flame, just curious, since you seem to have studied China a little
more than I. Do you think they will ever be able to bring corruption
under control? I can't imagine what it would take in a country that
populous, especially with so much new money flowing into the country.
And the fact that this was a political opponent makes me suspect the
motive..

Same here - no flame - just pure concern with a dash of curiosity =
since I am an Overseas Chinese. I have been told countless number of =
times that this happens everywhere, and that China is no exception. I =
have also been told that the goings-on can be compared to the opening of =
a flood dam, where all the muck has to gush out first, before the clean =
water eventually flows, but the question remains - how long will it take =
before all these pre-Liberation corruption that is now surfacing once =
again be cleaned up, if ever. One ray of hope is the fact that these =
corrupt high-ranking officials are being placed in the limelight, so =
somebody somewhere does care and is making an effort to clean up the PRC =
government.

Itīs still going on to a certain degree. Not isolated to the US where
there have been a never ending string of political corruption scandals
over the past 200 or so years, as late as September 5th, the Daily Mail
ran an article claiming that the UK is more corrupt than most African
nations because of its offshore tax havens.

If you were to compare the UK to China today, would you say that the =
degree of corruption is more, or is it less, than that which is going on =
in China? No flaming intended - just curious.
