The following is a synopsis by Lifetimemovies.com on the disgusting "A Girl
Like Me" being aired on the Lifetime channel: Do people understand *now* why
the FCC needs to monitor the cable industry with standards of decency? Left
unabated, who knows how much further organizations like NAMBLA will go to
recruit young boys. How this filth passed muster is worthy of review.

I feel even more sympathetic towards Eddie/Gwen after your description
of a documentary about gender issues, and someone's battle to simply be
able to be the person they always ought to have been, as 'filth'. I
hope this documentary is aired on SBS here in Oz. I'd watch it.
Oh , and what has transgender (or gender dysphoria if you view it as a
psychiatric issue) got to do with:
a. NAMBLA?
b. Abortion? (cf. To: field)
c. Atheism? (cf. To: field)
(I'm sure people in a.p.h. are better-placed than me to explain the

bill written in the State Assembly to modify a section of the state
code. Pleae, enlighten me. If Phil Angelides does become governor,
how exactly does he overturn a law enacted by the State Assembly and
Senate, and signed into law by the Governor?

that gay guys are hanging out with her because they enjoy her company
*NOT* because he wants to get in her pants. It's a refreshing change
from young straight men who are little more than hormones with legs :)

Most certainly. And beyond that, as a friend once explained to me,
it's fun to go boy-watching together.
I suspect something even deeper may sometimes be involved. Decades
ago I used to give blood at an establishment where most of the woman
technicians were strait-laced prissy fundamentalists (and this
was before fundamentalism was cool). One of the other donors
was a flashy outrageous gay (this too was before suchlike was
cool) -- and I was constantly startled at how these tight-lipped
little bastions of morality would flutter around the gay
boy, lavishing him with attention and obviously enjoying
his rather flamboyant presence.
It finally ocurred to me: they were enjoying teaching him
to be a girl. Everyone likes demonstrating something
they're good at to an interested novice, and in this
case it was teaching him their feminine ways.
Perhaps bobIScarole doesn't know that because s/he was never a young
*PRETTY* woman :)
Actually understanding subtleties like this would wreck Bob's
ability for deliciousy uncluttered moral outrage, and THEN where
would he be?

I suspect something even deeper may sometimes be involved. Decades
ago I used to give blood at an establishment where most of the woman
technicians were strait-laced prissy fundamentalists (and this
was before fundamentalism was cool). One of the other donors
was a flashy outrageous gay (this too was before suchlike was
cool) -- and I was constantly startled at how these tight-lipped
little bastions of morality would flutter around the gay
boy, lavishing him with attention and obviously enjoying
his rather flamboyant presence.
It finally ocurred to me: they were enjoying teaching him
to be a girl. Everyone likes demonstrating something
they're good at to an interested novice, and in this
case it was teaching him their feminine ways.
I could see that happening :)
Perhaps bobIScarole doesn't know that because s/he was never a young
*PRETTY* woman :)
Actually understanding subtleties like this would wreck Bob's
ability for deliciousy uncluttered moral outrage, and THEN where
would he be?
He'd still be a bigoted ***** but maybe a quieter one (hey, I'm an

I read an interesting analysis that pointed out that even the anti-gay
rights GOP members in the Assembly and Senate couldn't oppose this
measure in an election year. Removing a loophole used by violent
felons is bread and butter for the Central Valley voters. Voting
against such a measure could kill a campaign.
Have I mentioned how glad I am that I live in California? It has its
flaws, but compared to most of the rest of the country? Not so much.
