Object: Should I Plonk Frederic L. Rice?
Mr. Rice doesn't fit the usual profile of plonkable posters, he's not just
some offensive nut with nothing to say. But the level of hate in just the
thread titles makes me think he's got serious problems dealing with reality,
and spamming the ng with seven or eight new threads every day is annoying.
It crowds out everyone else, pushing other threads I'm interested in way
down past the bottom of my screen so I have to scroll and scroll to find
them. The problem is, even if I plonk him, other people respond to his
threads, so it's all going to fill up my list anyway. Unless there's a
newsreader that can plonk a person and all threads that person might
originate.

You won't be the first to plonk him.

Fred is an interesting case - I get annoyed by his
crossposting/trolling - but I often find myself leaning from what he
posts.
That's not to say that some of the stuff he posts isnt paranoid
extremeism - but he also finds interesting stuff.
I am not going to advocate plonking him.
Mark.

I did. He's a liberal, but he's so far to the left he becomes as bad as
the fundies that froth at the mouth here. I do get replies to the
articles he posts, however, some of which offer some interesting reading
if the subsequent posters leave the URLs intact.
I pick up about 1400 headers a day here. Scrolling is a skill you can't
do without. :-)

Sir, I am remarkably to the left of almost any American politician.
Rice here is a kook. He froths, but that is not indicative of his
political position, just that he froths. My casual observation says he
is getting worse, but I a may be mixing him up with someone else in my
head.

Maybe he is getting worse. I think I plonked him once, and then read some of
his quoted replies and thought the better of it. Usually I only plonk the
kind of people who constantly rant about some kind of vast Zionist
conspiracy, for example. Looking over his latest posts, it's nothing but a
bunch of cut and paste stuff. I'll just plonk, no great loss.

I see him as an extremist. He pointed us to a website recently, the "Stop
Elmer Fudd" site, about redneck yahoos and their SUVs and giant pickups
sucking gas and all - it was a funny site, but far enough to the left to
be as bigoted as today's right-wing christian groups. I consider myself
to be fairly left-oriented, but not that far.

Our only disagreement is that I don't consider that "further left", I
consider it a kook. It is not a natural extension of any leftist
principle, it is just a different form of bigotry and ignorance from
others that we see.
