Signal to noise |
Is it just me, or has the signal to noise ratio on aa
dropped to a new low? I sure wish the political ranters
would find a new home....

Well the Bush camp are already working their fingers to the bone filling in
as many ballot papers as they can, to make sure that it isn't close again,
so they don't have to bother their friends in the courts this time.

I'm speculating that he might dislike American politics and the often negative
aspect of American political advertising and argumentation. Many American
political positions seem to be personality, rather than policy, based and are
about finding ways to trash the other guy's integrity rather than coming up with
positive policies of your own. Quite possibly this sort of tit for tat works
with American voters but from the left pond aspect of many Europeans, it looks
superficial and that's not to say European politics is squeaky clean - it isn't
and some aspects of the American political way are encroaching here, especially
in the UK.
I didn't see any such reference in the OP to hating America (the Country or its
people), like me he was just getting ***** at the fact that this newsgroup
and indeed many other newsgroups with majority American contributors are getting
swamped with OT political posts.
I have satisfactorily extracted the signal from the noise by using a kill filter
and the ng looks a lot fitter and cleaner for it.

Well, really, our "democracy" (it's not even that, but fairly close) is
a joke in America these days. We don't vote for the better candidate;
we vote for the guy who throws the most cutting schoolyard insults.
What is the point of having the right to choose our leaders if we're
picking spoiled children in the bodies of middle-aged men to lead us?

OK - I leapt prematurely to J Forbes' defence - I guess, like me, you find
smileys and emoticons or whatever they call them a bit "chat-room" or IM and us
"mature" people don't like to use such childish devices.

I brought up much the same theme a few days ago. I constructed a simple kill
filter in Agent that has drastically reduced the amount of political crap, it
goes something like:
Subject: liberal* or bush* or kerry* or neocon* or republican* or democrat* or
moore* or gop* or clinton* or yang* or vietnam*
Author: liberal* or yang*
You get the idea.
