"Silent Hill" (Movie) |
I've just finished watching the move "Silent Hill" and I have to say I really
wasn't expecting it to be nearly as good as it was.`The visual effects were
flawlessly executed in each an every scene, and they were _delicious_. The
depiction of a "through the looking glass" paralel reality was very well carried
out. Some of the plot points were a bit canned, but overall it was an engaging
story for the mind as well as the eyes. I definitely recommend it.
The concept itself is an interesting one - look at what's in front of you and
contemplate the possibility that somehow, someone in some other "where" might be
looking at the exact same object, but from a slightly different angle in reality
(not just in space), and so you can both see the object but not each other...
Weird notion, really rather fascinating. One imagines they might be able to tap
out Morse code messages from one world to another by rapping on such objects.
The only down thing I can think of about the film is that it's at least the
second film for Sean Bean with this sort of plot line (ref: "The Dark"). He
seems like a decent actor, so I hope he's not been typcast into the "distraught
father whose daughter was abducted by Hell" role forever and ever. His looks
could be conducive to a much wider array of moods and tones, he should diversify
a bit more.
Anyway, there's the review. I think you should see it if you like good eye
candy, though it might be a bit too "dark" for some people's tastes.

This is the man whose recent screen parts have been as Odysseus,
Boromir, Richard Sharpe, and who will be the next John Ryder in the
Hitcher, the role Rutger Hauer made so very creepy, plus he's been
playing MacBeth on stage. He's amazingly versatile and I don't think
he's in danger of being typecast anytime soon.

That's good, then. It's just that it seems like there were two films right in a
row with almost exactly the same plot where he played exactly the same role.
Very weird, but you're right, I guess it's just a one-time fluke or something.
