Just like in 'Starship Troopers'? Where only people who served can vote and
have children. Not a bad idea. You could be that old sergeant with fake arms
and legs who tells the new recruits, "the Mobile Infantry made me into the
man you see today".
The bit about children was not in the book. Only those who had
COMPLETED voluntary service in a capacity chosen by the World Government
were eligible to vote or hold office.
You didn't think he actually read did you? It is a scene from the
movie. BTW did you see the sequel movie? Bad, real bad.
Recently a Congress Critter did propose a bill for National Service,
which I personally think is a good idea, but the bill as it stands is
rather FUBARed.
I volunteered, and I think indentured servitude to the State is a HORRIBLE
idea. Who the hell in their right mind would think that you owe the Government
years of your life because you were born?
Oh, that's right--somoene past the age of mandatory slavery.
The more this government looks at us as owing it, the more fucked up this
country becomes.
Of course, maybe it is a good idea so when the Red Chinese start to dictate
world policy we are already in line with our new superiors.
