Smart kids |
I work at a private school as an assistant, and one of my duties
includes playground supervision. A couple of kids, a 4th grade boy and
a 5th grade girl, always want to chat with me instead of playing with
the other kids. We all like to read, and the boy is already writing his
own books and plays (which sound very interesting actually) and today he
was telling me about some Eddie Izzard bit he loves that I've never
seen, which involves making fun of the Catholic church. So I said "I
guess you're not very religious then" and he piped up, with no shame or
fear, that he doesn't believe in god. Then the 5th grade girl said "Me
neither! It's so stupid. Things happen because of science, not some guy
in the clouds. I've been in an airplane, above the clouds, there's no
giant guy hanging out up there!" I've been smiling all day since
finding out that I am acquainted with such smart kids, and we're in one
of the southern states of America too, right in the "Bible Belt"!

And Time Magazine wants the bible to be taught in schools. Are we
going backwards?

It is truly excellent that they have acquired full immunity from that
fatal mind disease!

Eddie Izzard is very cool. My daughter loves him and his humor so
much she created her own 'religion' at her middle school in which they
made 'gods' out of several picnic tables. Apparently the tradition is
persisting and several other students carried it on after she
graduated.
