Sniffing out potential partners |
Isn't evolution grand?
Sniffing out potential partners
Humans are highly skilled at sniffing out suitable sexual partners,
research has found.
Scientists have shown that natural body scent plays a key role in
determining whether we find somebody attractive.
Gay men were found to be particularly good at detecting the scent of
other gay men.
The research, by the Philadelphia's Monell Chemical Senses Center, will
be published in the journal Psychological Science.
They found that homosexual men and lesbian women prefer different body
odour from heterosexual men and women.
In a second study using brain scans, researchers showed a chemical in
male sweat stimulated the brains of homosexual men and heterosexual
women in the same way.
Natural scents, or pheromones, often do not register on a conscious
level - but it has long been thought they probably have a big impact on
behaviour.
The Monell team asked a group of 82 straight and gay men and women to
sniff underam sweat collected from 24 donors of different gender and
sexual orientation.
The preferences of gay men were strikingly different from those of
heterosexual men and women, and lesbian women.
Gay men preferred the odours of other gay men, and heterosexual women.
The smell of gay men were the least liked by heterosexual men and women,
and lesbians.
Lead researcher Dr Charles Wysocki said: "Our findings support the
contention that gender preference has a biological component that is
reflected in both the production of different body odours, and in the
perception of and response to body odours."

A kind of related thing...
A friend of mine and his wife were getting at it hot and heavy one
night, and he's kissing her all over and she smelled "different".
The weird thing was, he says to her, "I think you're pregnant!" The
laughed at him, and they ended up going to Walgreens in the middle of
the night for a load of pregnancy tests...
He was right! Then again, with the nose he has, he should be good at
smelling stuff...
And did it again 3 years later, but his batting average dropped to .666
when the third one came along five after that.

I can tell when my partner is ovulating, she smells different and I
get really horny when she is.

The thiest/diest defense:
1)I believe in god, ergo god exists
2)I believe in god, ergo I know what god wills, wants, the path to god, etc.
3)I believe in god, ergo I am right/correct
4)You don't agree with me, you are wrong (see 1,2,and/or 3 above)
5)You dont' beleive as I do then you are wrong (see 1,2,and/or 3 above)
6)You want proof of god? (see 1,2,and/or 3 above)
7)You have evidence god does not exist (see 1,2,and/or 3 above)
8)If you don't believe as I do you are wrong (see 1,2,and/or 3 above)

do think it will stir up a fundie ant's nest. Let's see all the crazies

We have a rather good local talk radio station. As soon as this study
was mentioned by the host, a fundy called in to say that the study was
wrong. His reasoning? GodŽ wouldn't make a person with a biological
component that would tend that person to do something against GodŽ's
law. So obviously, homosexuality is a choice and a sin.
I'm not sure how these people bend reality so far without even
noticing they have created a klein bottle.
