WHITEHORSE — Bishop Hubert O’Connor, whose was once the highest
ranking member of the Roman Catholic Church sentenced for sex crimes
in Canada, has died.

Rape and indecent assault charges were laid against him 1991 and dated
back to his tenure as principal of the St. Joseph’s Mission Indian
residential school in Williams Lake, B.C.
He was convicted in 1996 and sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison.
