Soldiers' widows sue for pagan symbols on headstones |
See:
http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/11/13/widows.suit.ap/index.html
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The widows of two combat veterans sued the
government Monday for not allowing Wiccan symbols on their husbands'
military headstones.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs allows military families to
choose any of 38 authorized headstone images. The list includes
commonly recognized symbols for Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and
Judaism, as well as those for smaller religions such as Sufism
Reoriented, Eckiankar and the Japanese faith Seicho-No-Ie.
The Wiccan pentacle, a five-pointed star surrounded by a circle, is
not on the list, an omission that the widows say is unconstitutional.
....more quote.
Question is, why does the government have a list at all, making it a
list of state-recognized religions?

Depending on how exactly the headstones are made, there may be practical
reasons for a limited number of symbols. Imagine the mess if each and every
symbol of every faith in the world would be available...
....doesn't refute your point above I admit, but hey, not everything needs to
be unjustified. Sad but possibly true.

What mess? It's not as if the symbols are going to leap off the
headstones and go into meele combat.

The same reason government passed a law regarding the institution of
religion in 1954. Because Christians are a persecuted minority in
this country who aren't allowed to practice their religion.

And they will keep claiming it as long as they aren't helped along by the
government in burning all heretics at the stake again, like back in the
goo' ol' times.
Well, of course they won't be content even when there are only jebus
cultists left, as the countless intra-jebus-cult slaughters in history
show.
But what else to expect from the cult worshipping a sadistic gawd of war?
