In some linguistic circles, "some sort of <such-and-such>" implies
that it's actually not quite a _true_ <such-and-such>, but close. So
seen from that linguistic perspective, it's not "some sort of"
oxymoron, because that would mean that it isn't quite a _true_
oxymoron. Thus, it just _is_ an oxymoron.

Close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades. 8^)
Something is either an oxymoron or it isn't. Close doesn't count.

Isn't a #10 X 3" Phillips-head screw" some sort of screw?
Can you produce an example of something that is not quite an oxymoron?

No, but I'm not the one who 'corrected' you. I'm just explaining why
someone, somewhere, might have made the 'correction' that was made to
you. I, myself, do not see it the same way as they.

Patently false. The Quran explictly recognizes Judaism and Christianity.

Muslims recognize Jews and Christians (and anybody else) as infidels.
Moslems say that the only god is Allah and Mohammad is his prophet.

Well yeah, but the People of the Book are a higher class of infidel.

I don't believe this is correct. They refer to Christians and Jews as
"People of the Book", and technically aren't supposed to harm them.
When they call a Christian or a Jew an "infidel", I believe they mean
that the person referenced isn't _really_ a Christian or a Jew - that
they're betraying "The Book" in some way or another & thus aren't
truly religious people. Kind of like an outsider's "no true
scottsman" fallacy.

They can tax them, which they're not supposed to do to fellow Muslims,
but they're supposed to permit religious freedom for "The People of the
Book", as opposed to *other* infidels.
