He did good work managing the human genome project.
Seems to be a better manager than scientist. He needs to hit the science
books.

Yes. They become managers, bureaucrats, then they lose bladder
control. Whats up with that?

Not all. Jonas Salk was working on an AIDS vaccine near his death. But
science, like math and some other fields, seems to be the domain of the
young. Some move on to management, others to teaching or explaining science
to the public. But none should forget what science has discovered, and to
pick and choose what it says to match preconceived ideologies.

But they do forget. They do talk off their mouths. Who can ever
get away from their preconceived notions! Its a fact of life. My
problem is that there isn't a word of anyone asking this guy to
shut the f up and resign. As Christian Fascism becomes more
entrenched we see more higher power projections onto science
and society. The guy represents numerous scientists many
of whom would be deeply offended that this creep is making
claims like he is because they know better.

Since he works for the National Human Genome Research Institute, a
government organization, firing him for his speech would be illegal.
Scientists are smart. They know the implications of what he's said.

It's really pathetic what infantile rationalizations Collins' attempts to
mouth. Obviously, none of them are original, and he has only glommed on
to a few standard apologetics, after the fact, in a feeble attempt
justify a religion that he already committed himself to for emotional and
non-rational reasons.

"It is fashionable to wax apocalyptic about the
threat to humanity posed by the AIDS virus, 'mad cow'
disease, and many others, but I think a case can be
made that faith is one of the world's great evils,
comparable to the smallpox virus but harder to
eradicate." -- Richard Dawkins

He's pathetic as well as transparently dishonest.
But what is really sad, is that his audience of Christians will
believe what he says - and imagine other atheists should be convinced
by this stupidity.
If he is supposed to be a scientist one might expect him to think
before putting his foot in his mouth.
He claims he was atheist - yet he granted the Christian presumptions
behind "Who created the universe?".

A colleague of mine used to say: "If I have seen further than my
predecessors it is because I stand on the shoulders of midgets."
