First they claimed that he was "Ivan the Terrible", beyond any doubt.
Took 5 years of his life away until the Israeli Supreme Court finally
freed him. Now he's supposed to be someone else. Leave this poor man

Accused Nazi guard asks U.S. judge to step aside on deportation case
CLEVELAND - A Ukrainian immigrant accused of being a Nazi death camp
guard has asked the judge in his lengthy deportation case to step
aside.
The request filed by John Demjanjuk's lawyer refers to "serious
concerns about his impartiality" in making the request of Chief
Immigration Judge Michael J. Creppy.
The motion notes that Creppy wrote in a 1998 Georgetown Law Review
article that the government should focus on removing war criminals. It
also notes that Creppy, whose position is largely administrative, has
only chosen to preside over three cases since 1996, two of which
involve individuals accused of Nazi ties.
The U.S. government revoked Demjanjuk's citizenship in 2002 and said
documents from World War II showed he was a Nazi death camp guard.
Demjanjuk, 85 has always said he was captured by the German army and
held as a prisoner of war.
The next hearing in his deportation case is set for June 30. The motion
regarding the judge was filed Tuesday.
Greg Gagne, a spokesman for the Executive Office for Immigration
Review, said Thursday there had not been a formal response and that the
court does not otherwise comment on motions.
The United States first tried to deport Demjanjuk in 1977, accusing him
of being a notorious guard, Ivan the Terrible, at the Treblinka death
camp. He was extradited to Israel, convicted and sentenced to hang, but
the Israeli Supreme Court found that someone else was apparently that
guard.
Demjanjuk returned home and his U.S. citizenship was restored. The
current deportation case is based on evidence uncovered by the Justice
Department alleging he was a different guard.

It's very likely, IMNSHO, that Demjanjuk is "Ivan the Terrible."
However, as much as it pains me to have to agree with Young on
anything, this time I have no choice. Whether Demjanjuk is who the
Israelis claim or whether he isn't, the Israeli government failed to
prove their case beyond reasonable doubt. Demjanjuk should never have
been handed over to them in the first place.
Now, go ahead and call me a Jew-hater to your idiotic little heart's
content. I couldn't care less.
