NEW BRITAIN -- Former Bristol daycare provider Pauline Pelletier was
sentenced to six months in prison today after pleading no contest to
allegations that she shook a 7-month-old boy in her care and caused
temporary blindness.

Pelletier's attorney, Patrick Tomasiewicz, her brother-in-law and her
pastor all described her as a caring mother and grandmother deeply
remorseful for her actions.
But Senior Assistant State's Attorney Kevin Murphy said medical
records indicated that the child received two separate injuries and
that the child was hurt because Pelletier lost her temper.

Pelletier initially told Bristol police that the boy may have been
injured after falling from a jumper. But medical experts concluded
that the injuries were consistent with "shaken baby syndrome."
