Sources told Arizona Capitol Times on Oct. 17 the AG has told the
embattled treasurer to resign before Election Day, Nov. 7, or face
several felony charges in connection with its nine-month investigation
of his conduct as a public official.
The AG’s office has offered Mr. Petersen, a Republican, a deal whereby
he would plead guilty to one reduced misdemeanor charge in exchange
for not being prosecuted on felony charges of fraud, forgery and
misappropriation of public funds, as well as a 2004 campaign finance
violation, said sources with direct knowledge of the case.
