DELAND -- A former Volusia County sheriff's chaplain charged in a road
rage incident was sentenced to 18 months probation Tuesday after a
witness testified that fear prompted him to point a gun at a motorists
with a 9-month-old baby in her car.
Anthony Alvarez, 41, pleaded no contest to aggravated assault with a
deadly weapon and impersonating a law enforcement officer and faced up
to three years in jail. But Circuit Judge J. David Walsh sentenced him
to 18 months probation and 100 hours community service.
