A Grand Island man who volunteered with young people at a local church
has pleaded no contest to misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency
of a minor, reduced from felony sexual assault on a child.
James P. Thomas, 22, 3111 S. North Road, waived his right to a
presentence investigation and was sentenced to one year of probation.
He was also fined $500 and ordered to continue counseling until
discharged by both the counselor and his probation officer.
Thomas' attorney, Fred Vipperman, said his client's plea was part of
an agreement with the state.
Hall County Chief Deputy Sheriff Chris Rea said previously that the
man volunteered with a local church's youth group. The sexual assault
occurred May 1 in the country and involved a girl who was 14 years old
at the time, he said.
