Sound of Trumpet Christian Morality: MI Pastor Sentenced for Snorting Coke |
Yep, that vaunted Christian moral superiority
http://abclocal.go.com/wjrt/story?section=local&id=4635912
FLINT (WJRT) - (10/06/06)--After a turbulent year of drug abuse, an
arrest and jail time, a well-known Flint pastor is looking to the
future.
Rev. Derrick Aldridge was arrested in January. He pleaded guilty in
August to one count of possession of cocaine less than 25 grams and
one count of improper possession of a firearm in a vehicle.

Curious how atheists cannot make a rational argument of any kind, but
prefer to insinuate. Just what is the point of this?
This pastor is guilty of... what, in an atheist's eyes?
* Failing to conform to societal values? Probably, but so what? Why
should we conform?
* Failing to conform to laws made in that country by the great and the
good? Probably, but why do atheists care? Or should all laws be
followed, just or unjust?
* Failing to follow the absolute morality of mankind? Probably; but
atheists don't believe in any such morality.
* Failing to live up to Christian standards? Probably -- but then
atheists don't even try to.
* Following the ethic of "if it feels good, do it"? Probably -- but
atheists believe in that, so how can they criticise him?
In short, whatever the chap has done wrong, an atheist either does the
same or has no valid ground to complain.
Atheism -- the substitute for intelligent thought.

Living down to Christian standards.

I'm not clear how this dubious-sounding statement answers the question.
Who is "we", what is meant by "moral improvement", and has it
happened? And the question still remains -- why conform to whatever
happens to be fashionable?

Not much of a reply, is it?

All ONE billion must repent their evil ways. Is it not written?
Who said anything about Christian moral superiority anyway?
They do.

There are many things I think are wrong that I don't believe should be
criminalized. This is hardly pruitanism.

Quite the contrary - that IS puritanism. People who snort coke hurt no
one else, but YOU think it is wrong and therefore THEY should not do
it.
You have absorbed the worst parts of Christianity, and now you feel so
superior, you try to beat Christiansity over the head with your
puritanical morality.
