A PRIEST was booted out of court for shouting at the judge as his sex
fiend son was jailed for rape.
Canon Paul Vann, a priest of 30 years, had to be escorted from the
public gallery after an "emotional outburst" at Cardiff Crown Court
during sentencing yesterday.
Judge Stephen Hopkins QC ordered an usher to remove him from the
proceedings after the priest took offence at the nine-year jail term
handed to his son Nicholas.
Nicholas Vann, 37, who lived with his parents in the Machen parish of
south Wales, was convicted last month of six counts of rape, three of
causing actual bodily harm and one of common assault.
He was disqualified from working with children and ordered to register
as a sex offender for life.
A spokeswoman for the Diocese of Monmouth said no formal complaint had
been made and blamed the "emotional outburst" on the priest's "shock"
at hearing his son being sentenced.
