throughout Judaea are making their way to a location on the banks of the Jordan river'.
According to Mark this is how Christianity began.
Mark's story, of course, was obviously a work of fiction. The reader was not expected
to believe the above event actually happened.
John the Baptist, Jesus of Galillee, etc., were fictional characters.
Once one looks at things from this perspective then everything falls into place.
