Actually, in most US localities, killing a mime is punishable by a
small fine. There's no additional penalty, as your "community service"
is considered to have been performed during the crime itself...

There's no harm in reading the Bible, if you do it correctly. It's sort
of like a scientist studying AIDS, you see. With the right precautions,
you can avoid infection and possiblly find a cure.

Really ... why then is it that the "Theists" don't even understand it and

Doesn't matter. It reveals much about the culture of the authors (much
more than they would like you to know probably ;-). No different to
reading the religious writings of the ancient Egyptians. (Quite a lot of
bible ideas are actually copied from things Egyptian).

"Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."
--Albert Einstein

"I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his
creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a God, in short,
who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that
the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble
souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotisms."
[Albert Einstein, obituary in New York Times, 19 April 1955]
"I cannot conceive of a personal God who would directly influence the
actions of individuals, or would directly sit in judgment on creatures
of his own creation. I cannot do this in spite of the fact that
mechanistic causality has, to a certain extent, been placed in doubt
by modern science. My religiosity consists in a humble admiration of
the infinitely superior spirit that reveals itself in the little that
we, with our we are and transitory understanding, can comprehend of
reality. Morality is of the highest importance -- but for us, not for
God."
[Albert Einstein, from "Albert Einstein: The Human Side", edited by
Helen Dukas and Banesh Hoffman, Princeton University Press]

"Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."
--Albert Einstein, "Science, Philosophy and Religion: a Symposium", 1941

"The further the spiritual evolution of mankind advances, the more certain
it seems to me that the path to genuine religiosity does not lie through
the fear of life, and the fear of death, and blind faith, but through
striving after rational knowledge" --Albert Einstein

"My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior
spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive
with our frail and feeble mind." --Albert Einstein

"Before God we are all equally wise - and equally foolish." --Albert
Einstein

"We should take care not to make the intellect our god; it has, of course,
powerful muscles, but no personality. " --Albert Einstein

"Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen."
--Albert Einstein

"The real problem is in the hearts and minds of men. It is easier to
denature plutonium than to denature the evil spirit of man." --Albert
Einstein

"True religion is real living; living with all one's soul, with all one's
goodness and righteousness." --Albert Einstein

"At any rate, I am convinced that He [God] does not play dice." --Albert
Einstein

"Every one who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes
convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe-a spirit
vastly superior to that of man, and one in the face of which we with our
modest powers must feel humble." --Albert Einstein

"The scientists' religious feeling takes the form of a rapturous amazement
at the harmony of natural law, which reveals an intelligence of such
superiority that, compared with it, all the systematic thinking and acting
of human beings is an utterly insignificant reflection."
--Albert Einstein

Guys, Mr. Einstein did not believe in a personal God (or was unable to
prove!) however, he did have a gut feeling there is a God.
The human mind is not capable of grasping the Universe. We are like a
little child entering a huge library. The walls are covered to the
ceilings with books in many different tongues. The child knows that
someone must have written these books. It does not know who or how. It
does not understand the languages in which they are written. But the child
notes a definite plan in the arrangement of the books---a mysterious order
which it does not comprehend, but only dimly suspects.--Albert Einstein

I know he didn't believe in a personal god and was closer to Spinoza than
anything. But he used the word *lame?

I'm having more trouble with that, myself...

Benedictus de Spinoza, a Jew, claimed God is the mechanism of nature and the universe.
and the Bible is a metaphorical and allegorical work used to teach the nature of God.
Mark, I believe "lame" is Old English and when Einstein used it, it must have been a
hip word dog ;o)

I have a strong feeling he intended it in the sense of the older
meaning of "handicapped in walking", rather than the slang usage, dude

"Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."
--Albert Einstein

This is proof that Einstein should have stuck to physics.
He is quite wrong that Sience without religion is "lame".
It has been hobbled by religion since the very beginnings.
It can be cured of lameness by freeing it from religion.

Where did he say this, and in what context? Because it sounds most
un-Einsteinian.
