"stump the pastor" at 7:30 tonight!! Input needed ASAP!!! |
Well, it's probably way too late for most of you all to give feedback
in time, but I saw this advertisement in the paper today that said,
"Come by and stump the pastor at 7:30 pm ...". (That's mountain time
today in the US). Basically, they are inviting people to ask questions
about the existence of god, xian doctrine, etc. I'm fairly confident
that I can come up with a few hard questions on my own. But I was
wondering if people had any recommendations for a few real zingers.
I'm gonna print out a list and show up. I suspect that this is some
kind of scam to try to convert atheists. But I'm not gonna let them
play me like that. I'm just going to remind them that "you invited
people to ask you questions and that's what I'm here to do". If they
try any of their emotional stuff or guilt tripping I'm just going to
reiterate that I'm here to get information, not to have people shriek
or cry or do name calling and recriminations. For that matter, if they
try to turn any questions around or ask me to prove anything, I intend
to remind them that they called this event "stump the pastor", not
"answer a question with another question to the unbeliever". It's in
the student union, not a church, so that's makes it less likely that
they will be able to set up a complete ambush. I'm gonna try to bring
my brother and one or two buddies (if they can make it) so that xers
can't so easily surround and intimidate and shout us down. Anyway,
I'd like to have enough information to keep things going for a while.
Of course, I will report results after the event ends tonight. :))

I'm kind of wondering if they have an explanation for the discrepancy about
the day Jesus dies (was it the day *of* passover or the day *after*
passover?)

Here's a silly question: If you could go back in time and successfully
rescue Jesus from the crucifixion, would you do it?
(They accuse us of "relative morality", let's see if they'll rescue Jesus
just like they would anyone else. If not, then the difference must be the
personal gain they'll get in the afterlife. They'd let an innocent person be
tortured and killed just so they can go to heaven.)

(1) Why do the four gospels differ in their accounts of what happened at
Jesus' tomb, progressively embellishing the story (the later the dated
gospel, the more the embellishment-- read the bible and see for yourself,
how progressively there are more angels, more fantastic details added).
(2) Why does a loving god allow millions of innocent children to die of
disease from microbes (who have NO evil 'sin nature')? For example, over
2000 innocent children die each DAY in Africa alone from malaria.
Worldwide, millions of people, including children, die each year from
malaria, And this is just ONE microbe disease! An omnipotent God who
allows this is not one worthy to be loved/worshipped, but rather is an
evil sadistic god, since he could prevent it.

I know how they answer some of the questions about the differences in the
Gospels. Often they just say that each thing happened but some of them were
left out of the one Gospel but not in the other. Apparently that's why they
need 4 gospels, because each one leaves stuff out.

A reference to validate this-- raw data easily available from the World
Health Organization (WHO) or Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Site. I
teach microbiology, and it is mind boggling how many deaths occur each
year from microbes (who remember have no sin nature or evil nature). 70%
of deaths from malaria occur in children under 5 -- strange how an
alleged loving god allows so much misery to the little children that
Jesus so loves. Remember, malaria does not kill quickly-- but slowly and
with much misery-- only a sadistic omnipotent god could allow this.

Besides microbes, there are also untold deaths and dismemberment from

year from microbes (who remember have no sin nature or evil nature). 70%
of deaths from malaria occur in children under 5 -- strange how an
alleged loving god allows so much misery to the little children that
Jesus so loves. Remember, malaria does not kill quickly-- but slowly and
with much misery-- only a sadistic omnipotent god could allow this.
http://www.idrc.ca/books/reports/1996/01-07e.html
Besides microbes, there are also untold deaths and dismemberment from
floods, earthquakes, etc.
Oh, I know the answer to that one. Back when Stwitchy and I
were debating, he said that one reason that small babies
die may be because when they tugged on their mother's hair,
they were trying to rip their mother's heads off. Those
babies are all attempted murderers, you see.

WHAT?!?
That is without a doubt, one of the STUPIDEST things I have ever heard. Almost
ALL babies pull hair - they're curious for crying out loud! The only reason why
my daughter didn't is because mine's short. Sheesh!

Well, it was Tickty, after all. Here's the exact quote:
-- begin Thwichy quote --
How do I know what babies are or are not capable of, with
particular focus on their early moral awareness? Let's
suppose that Baby Doe employs its grasping reflex on
Momma's hair with the intent of ripping her head off. Is
attempted murder by babies okay? Now, of course it's
difficult to etablish motive where we cannot pin down
conscious intent with anything approaching confidence, but
this is for the sake of argument.

So your baby never tugged on your hair? You should be
pleased. You have one of the few babies that didn't start
life by trying to violently kill their mother!

Yes, and so you should! Especially when she puts on her blood-curdling ballet

I already bought a pair of little butterfly fairy-wings for Maggie. That
plus a little pink fairy outfit should cause most people to collapse
from cute-poisoning.

I guess you probably don't want to hear about the ballerina jewelry box, Fairy

little gold flower earrings I just bought for the witchling for Xmas then, huh?
