Reminds me of the cruelty toward both adult Christians and their
children in the name of atheistic communism. Human nature's dark side
will utilize religion or atheism if practicable in pursuit of its
diabolical and depraved desires and goals. As Pascal observed, "Man is
both the glory and the shame of the universe." We educate, but we also
exterminate. We created the scalpel but also shrapnel. We produce and
we pollute as well. We explore but we also exploit. The Auschwitz gas
chambers were the work of human beings, but human beings risked their
lives in order to hide and protect those marked to suffer that horrible
fate. "We have met the enemy and he is us," according to Pogo.

It's now fairly clear that you need this straw man because you need to
project your own failings onto others, and in particular onto those that
you disagree with. Your tap dance in another thread regarding the
question of whether you would rape, loot and murder is very informative.
You are scum, Denny, and you know you are scum. The only way you can
excuse yourself is by making others appear as bad as yourself.

You could have condemned the above events knowing it was strong
belief that drove them to do what they did. Instead you choose to
excuse it by citing other wrongs. Fine, that was your choice

Human action often have very mixed roots. Had the abusers really loved
and cared for the little girl, they wouldn't have latched onto the
witchcraft notion as an excuse to act out their rejection of her. The
article indicated that she was probably the niece of her adult abuser
rather than her daughter, an aunt who most likely resented having the
responsibility of her sister's child. People have an inordinate
capacity for rationalizing their behavior, do they not? That was my
point.

No such thing as a capitalistic or democratic atheist, in your
opinion?

By no means. The early Church described in Acts practiced a form of
Christian communism. "And all who believed were together and had all
things in common; and they sold their possessions and goods and
distributed them to all, as any had need." Acts 2.44-45 My position is
that both religion and atheism are susceptible to misuse and abuse,
since human beings, whoever whichever they may be, are prone to
rationalize their behavior.
No such thing as a capitalistic or democratic atheist, in your

That can't be a serious question. Of course, there are both capitalist
and democratic atheists and Christians, who in spite of disparate world
views still have much the more in common.

As a Democratic and Capitalistic Atheist (I'm also a Liberal!), I can
say that, without a doubt, we exist. :-) Communism isn't atheistic.
Atheism is the lack of belief in God.
Communism is a political economic theory.
While they can be mixed in a person's position, the two are disparate
entities. You can be a communist Christian, a communist atheist, a
capitalist atheist, a capitalist Christian... or something completely
different.

I agree 100%. I think there are millions of people like Denny,
though, who think atheism and communism are one and the same thing.
They probably grew up during the anti-Soviet McCarthy era, and they
think Russia and Stalin are a valid example of what a country run by
atheists would be like.
While they can be mixed in a person's position, the two are disparate

Exactly! I don't think many Christians would like to hear that some
of their fellow Christians were also communists. They'd no doubt
consider them non-Christians, and maybe even evil!
