SUPREME COURT TO SCRUTINIZE PUBLIC GRANTS FOR DIVINITY
TRAINING, MAY SEEK TO AVOID CONTROVERSIAL PLEDGE CASE...
The U.S. Supreme Court takes a religious holiday before
hearings in a number of controversial cases. Justices must
decide if Americans should be taxed in order to provide
grants and other "scholarships" to students entering
divinity school. The court may also move to avoid a case
that challenges the inclusion of the words "under God" in
the Pledge of Allegiance. (10-13-03)
