Object: T. rex with Feathers?!
Once again, "the famous fossil beds of Liaoning Province" have brought
forth another intriguing fossil:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3726370.stm
"Chinese scientists have unearthed the earliest known relative of the
mighty Tyrannosaurus rex. What is more, the creature, which lived 60
to 70 million years before T. rex, had fluffy feathers covering its
body."
And just in time for Xmas, too! Cuddly toy retailers have to be
clapping their hands with glee!
But it's another one in the eye for the creationists. Liaoning has
established beyond doubt that feathers were a regular accoutrement for
dinosaurs, and had nothing to do with birds - except in that the
lineage that led to birds did not have to invent the feather, it just
had to grow light enough to profit from an added advantage that
pre-existing feathers offered.

Now that that is settled, perhaps we can start discussing whether or
not Earth is the center of the universe. It is odd these lunatics are
not upset about schools not opposing the obvious heresies of modern
astronomy.

Well what do you expect from a province that starts with the syllable that
sounds like "Lie"?
</cretenist mode>
(Yes, I know that's not how it's actually pronounced, but your average cretenist
probably wouldn't). :-)

You know more than I do, Uncle - I've no idea how to pronounce
"Liaoning" without sounding like a cat in heat!

When my kitten was in heat she ran round and round the neighbours' garden
going "reow....reow...reow...", followed by a massive, wobbly, loud,
MY-II-OW!"
