Terry Gross makes Bill O'Reilly Cry |
O'Reilly stormed out of a Fresh Air interview aired tonight. It was
precious. Apparently, it was recorded yesterday, so O'Reilly made NPR
and Fresh Air his "Ridiculous Item of the Day" on the his TV show
last night or earlier today. Terry Gross played a clip of it at the
beginning of the show. After Bill stomped out, she read a "pan" from
People Magazine . The author noted that he had been made O'Reilly's
"Ridiculous Item of the Day" after he had wrote a bad review of
Bill's book. It was a perfect set of bookends.
Ar one point, Bill was complaining that a reviewer had panned his
book, but had given Michael Moore's a favorable review. Terry
disagreed and Bill said, read the last paragraph, the author liked
Moore's book. Luckily, Terry had the review in front of her. Here's
what the last paragraph said:
"Mr. Moore has marshalled all of his impassioned, populist bluster to
effecting that change. That makes 'Dude, Where's my Country?' a
bumpersticker that doubles as a book."
To which O'Reilly replied, "You don't think that review is favorable
to that book?"

Sure - the democrats and liberals did. It was fun. And hilarious.
You know what's funny? Look at Quayle's quotes today, and you will see a
self effacing, honest but not too bright politician. He *knew* he was a
dunce, and said so. Compare him to GWB and ask yourself, who would you
rather have as president?
Where did Quayle say that he thought he was a dunce? Don't you think
that he just has a tendency to mux up words and don't you think that
people just focused on that for political advantage? Note that you can
get anyone and rip quotes out of context and find problems or even,
heaven forbid, grammatical and spelling errors! Does any of that reach
the level of Gore going into some museum or some government building and
asking who a portrait was of and being told it was some like George
Washington or Lincoln?
In the same vein, look at Pat Buchanan. Who would have ever dreamed he
would sound like the voice of conservative reason?
Pat is a neo-isolationist for some reason.
Well, Quayle did have the little "potato" spelling incident,
wherein he admitted that he wasn't too smart.. To his credit.
The Gore incident you refer to was one of only a few. There are
literally dozens of silly Quayle quotes.
Again, I can see you going for this Republican GOOD, Democrat
BAD defense of Quayle.

Potatoe is an alternative spelling not usually used today. From OED

ones come in." It's obvious that Quayle is old school and may have
helped write the US constitution.

So you agree it happened? Tell that to the doubters who don't believe it

But Dan Quayle's quotes are legend.
Still, Quayle isn't terribly smart, but he's not the complete

Calling the Quran the "The Satanic Verses" sounds like something that
General guy would say. How does that hold a candle to Gore's not knowing
who, who was it, Lincoln was?
Now you're dancing the Tangent Tango.

Where did Quayle say that he thought he was a dunce? Don't you think

heaven forbid, grammatical and spelling errors!
We have a firm commitment to NATO, we are a part of NATO. We have a
firm commitment to Europe. We are a part of Europe.
-- Vice President Dan Quayle
He means that in a metaphorical way.
Why are you trying to demonstrate that you are not as bright as Dan
Quayle?
Do you really think that Quayle meant that the US was a country in
Europe? I think that there is some Bush quote where he says that we
should reduce our dependency on overseas oil by getting more oil from
Mexico. Supposedly Bush is making an error, I guess, because 'overseas'
means anywhere not in the US. Of course Mexico is right next door by
land and people in Texas would hardly call it 'overseas'.
Certainly you can't claim that
Quayle thought that the US was a country in Europe.
"I love California; I practically grew up in Phoenix."
-- Vice President Dan Quayle
The only question is which of these six hits did Quayle mean?:
http://www.mapqwest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&addtohistory=&address=&city=Phoenix&state=ca&zipcode=&homesubmit=Get+Map
Does any of that reach
the level of Gore going into some museum or some government building and
asking who a portrait was of and being told it was some like George
Washington or Lincoln?
[The book, `The Satanic Verses'] is obviously not only offensive
but, I would think most of us would say, in bad taste.

The argument that Quayle made some error in the supposed quote above is
that things that are offensive are also in bad taste therefore he was
being redundant? How does that compare to Gore not knowing what Lincoln
looks like?

Sure - the democrats and liberals did. It was fun. And hilarious.
You know what's funny? Look at Quayle's quotes today, and you will see a
self effacing, honest but not too bright politician. He *knew* he was a
dunce, and said so. Compare him to GWB and ask yourself, who would you
rather have as president?
I don't know - I think it would be a toss-up. They're both morons,
and either way, the same people would actually be running the
government (the hard-right-wing wacko neocons).
In the same vein, look at Pat Buchanan. Who would have ever dreamed he
would sound like the voice of conservative reason?

I think McGovern just might've been compensating for the issues he was

Intelligent people are frequently unpopular. What does his popularity
have to do with whether he is right or wrong?
As it turns out, the rest of the country didn't like McGovern. Does
that mean you're smarter than the rest of the country; that we just
don't "get" it?
Possibly.

George McGovern? I don't see a George McGovern quote here - what are
you talking about.
And there is a very good reason why conservatives don't quote Quayle
very much. You seem to be overly worried that the rest of us are
"smarter" than you are. Quoting Dan Quayle is not going to help you
in that regard.
As it turns out, the rest of the country didn't like McGovern. Does

You must be VERY young. The conservatives have been whining about how
the Democrat Libbruls have had a stranglehold on government for so
long that it's just a droning drumbeat. Only recently have the
republicans been able to gain political power, and even then they
usually end up perpetuating and even expanding the lineral policies
that have worked so well.
I >admire your resistance to reality...it must make the day float on by!
Ohhhh... the irony!
