Terry Gross makes Bill O'Reilly Cry |
O'Reilly stormed out of a Fresh Air interview aired tonight. It was
precious. Apparently, it was recorded yesterday, so O'Reilly made NPR
and Fresh Air his "Ridiculous Item of the Day" on the his TV show
last night or earlier today. Terry Gross played a clip of it at the
beginning of the show. After Bill stomped out, she read a "pan" from
People Magazine . The author noted that he had been made O'Reilly's
"Ridiculous Item of the Day" after he had wrote a bad review of
Bill's book. It was a perfect set of bookends.
Ar one point, Bill was complaining that a reviewer had panned his
book, but had given Michael Moore's a favorable review. Terry
disagreed and Bill said, read the last paragraph, the author liked
Moore's book. Luckily, Terry had the review in front of her. Here's
what the last paragraph said:
"Mr. Moore has marshalled all of his impassioned, populist bluster to
effecting that change. That makes 'Dude, Where's my Country?' a
bumpersticker that doubles as a book."
To which O'Reilly replied, "You don't think that review is favorable
to that book?"

Get real. The only reason NPR is still on the air is because of government
funding. Noone is forced to pay for O'Reilly's program. His show is
top-rated because people *want* to hear what he has to say.

Indeed five minutes research pulls in their annual report:
http://www.npr.org/about/annualreports/npr2001.pdf
In addition to the 2% from direct grants, 46% of NPR's funding comes
from member station fees, and in turn 13% of those member station
revenues comes from CPB, which in turn gets a massive 12% of its
revenue from the dreaded government.
So that's 0.46 * 0.13 * 0.12 for an additional indirect GUMMINT
subsidy that represents a massive 0.007% of NPR's funding.
Oh, and in general the arbitron ratings for NPR radio shows are pretty
good, they are just ignored when figuring how commercial stations are
doing. So the next time some morning or afternoon rightwing jackass
claims he/she/it is #1, that would be #1 only if you ignore
intelligent radio for thinking people.
However one would think that if NPR was in fact so beholden to GUMMINT
funding, it would be rightwing rather than left, yes?

I agree with jwk, the Repubs are SO moral and perfect, until you find
out that Arnold was gropping women and calling it 'fun', and Rush,
altho he has called for all people using drugs to be shot, now admits
HE is addicted to drugs, and how many Repubs had to resign their
positions when trying to impeach Clinton because it was 'outed' that
they too were cheating on THEIR wives?????
And, Repubs claim they want to be out of people's lives, but, they
want to legislate what you can do in your bedrooms, and they want to
check your credit and everything else before you board a plane to fly
somewhere, and they want to be able now to sneak into your house and
'spy' on you without a court order just in case you are anti-Bush
apparently, gee, remember Nixon and his hate list? Just wait, with
the sleaze in the White House now, we have only scratched the surface
of hate lists, the very fact they are outing CIA agents to get even
with people who speak the truth shows you how low the Repubs will go,
and just watching that smirk on Bush's face when he was saying he
would get the person who leaked it, you KNOW he isn't even looking, he
already knows who did it, and I bet it was under his orders.

Uh, the women he groped said they didn't allow him too. Got a clue?
People have been put on no-fly lists for being anti-war activists.
They are not terrorists.
They are just America haters.
No, they are expressing their first amendment rights, and participating in
the political life of their nation.
Just because you are conservative doesn't mean you have to be a liar, or be
stupid. There are actual arguments you could make for socially consevative
policies, or for radical Republican economic policies, but you don't make
them. You relate everything to Clinton, as if that mattered. He is not
President. He hasn't been President fop years. He won't be President
again.
Pick an issue, and argue the issue. That's debate. You pick personalities
and attack them or support them to the bitter end, regardless of the issues.
You are an example of all that is bad in American political life. You are a
sad, shrunken version of your windbag idol, Rush. He too never had an
original thought in his life. He too never articulated a positive proposal
in his life.

You only grope women who allow you to. Did you ever hear of *assault?
Who says that those women didn't allow Arnold to grope them?
Uh, the women he groped said they didn't allow him too. Got a clue?
Obviously they did allow him to (Is this English?) since he did it and
evidently didn't even get slapped, sternly talked at, or nothing.
People have been put on no-fly lists for being anti-war activists.
They are not terrorists.
They are just America haters.
No, they are expressing their first amendment rights, and participating in
the political life of their nation.
People who hate America also can be expressing their First Amendment
rights.
Just because you are conservative doesn't mean you have to be a liar, or be
stupid.
I'm not a liar or stupid.
There are actual arguments you could make for socially consevative
policies, or for radical Republican economic policies, but you don't make
them. You relate everything to Clinton, as if that mattered.
Clinton isn't even mentioned in the quoted material. Are you a køøk?
He is not
President. He hasn't been President fop years. He won't be President
again.
Good.
Pick an issue, and argue the issue. That's debate. You pick personalities
and attack them or support them to the bitter end, regardless of the issues.
I don't know what you think you are referring to.
You are an example of all that is bad in American political life. You are a
sad, shrunken version of your windbag idol, Rush.
I don't even listen to Rush Limbaugh. You just brought up Clinton and
then related everything to Rush. He isn't even on the air now.
He too never had an
original thought in his life. He too never articulated a positive proposal
in his life.
I see, you are a koøk.

Though I have not yet agreed with you about anything, I owe you an appology
here. I had two replies going at once, and responded in one with what
should have gone in the other.
We'll disagree later, I'm sure. But for now, sorry, and enjoy your weekend.

How much of NPR's funding in general, and Terry Gross' program in
particular, comes from a government?
Noone is forced to pay for O'Reilly's program.
If you don't count the strong-arm tactics the News Corporation used
to get cable companies to carry FoxNews.

You hate gays and the poor, do you?
So tell us, hankie; what percentage of NPR's money comes from public
funding. Could you tell us that, hankie?
