The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution |
"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the
jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State
wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall
abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor
shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without
due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal
protection of the laws."
What part of this is it that the Republican Party doesn't understand?

The part where brown-skinned people can be citizens, not slaves. Odd,
isn't it, considering the history of the Republican party.

rights. Ask any Native American how their people fared under the Lincoln
administration

IIRC, The Emancipation Proclamation only applied to the Confederate
states. Some northern states still allowed slaves, but had not
seceded. Lincoln's idea was to initiate a slave revolt by banning
slavery in the south, thus putting the Confederacy into a turmoil. The
plan didn't really work all that well.

war on the side of the Confederacy.

Actually, his idea was to keep the UK and France out of the
war on the side of the Confederacy.
Probably more the UK than France, but then France might have been
still ***** about that little War of 1812 thing.

The 14th amendment was never actually ratified (two states
rescinded their ratification after Congress declared that the southern
states would never be allowed to get out from under martial law until
they did, declaring their governments to be unlawful, which is odd,
because they had lawful governments to ratify the 13th).
