Most definitely the best 'feel good' post I've read in days. 'Faith' in the
unseen and indetectable is 'okay' for a while. So is the lack of
indisputable *proof* that what one has such resolute faith in is genuinely
'real' -- up to a point. But when that 'while' encompasses the entire
history of mankind; with the most brilliant of religious scientists and the
best detection equipment man has ever been able to devise; and with them
moving mountains in effort to detect deity and failing so miserably, it's
time for those insisting that deity exists to cede the fact they can't prove
it and quit lambasting atheists and agnostics for their lack of belief.
It's time to show the atheist and agnostic a little more respect and
goodwill.

Off to Danbury to cook a celebration dinner for an elderly friend (and

Michael wasn't here when the count started so he might not know the
reason.

And I still don't know.
I am hoping that someone is able to enlighten me.

Many years ago, before my time even, some doofus theist, trying to
minimize his personal boogeyman, actually claimed there were only three
posters in alt.atheism. I found his message once (before Googly Groups
screwed up their search capabilities rendering them pretty useless) and
the resulting thread was, as you might expect from knowing this place,
pretty funny.
Somebody (actually more than one I recall) suggested a "roll call".
Michelle picked this up and ran with it, compiling a list of posters.
This grew into a list of 300 almost overnight (keeping Mickey running
<g>).
That was, at the time, about where she meant to stop. But the thing took
on a life of its own and the numbers kept growing to beat sixty. In
digging through the history, I found that 1,000 was reached pretty damn
*fast*.
Mickey was publishing the list which was numbered (originally just as a
count to show doofus theist how stupid his remark was) but people kinda
liked the numbers and started "wearing" them. What started out as a
rather light hearted rebuttal to a trollish theist became a rather "stand
up and be counted" kind of thing. Still not totally serious (are we ever?
<g>) but with some serious connotations such as "there are more of us
than you think Mister Theist".
Not everybody's on the list. It's not like we have a Membership (V, idiot
that he is, thinks the list *is* a membership list... on Usenet... what a
thought). If you want to be on it, cool. If you don't, cool.
But you're welcome to join us.
The operation is painless and you'll be *so* happy...
(Apologies to Michelle if I botched the history, I'm going from memory of
digging through it a few years ago now)

That's the right spelling, btw. I've been on lipitor since my doctor
told me it was either that or totally change my lifestyle; that was
the week my Dad died, as it happened. (And since I'm on it anyway,
it turns out that it has a couple of nice little side effects,
including reduced incidence of colon cancer among other things.)

I think I'm supposed to be on one. I'm between doctors at the present
however. The first one around here really hacked me off.

I'm still seeing the doctor Heather and I found in 1988. (I found a
good doc and I'm sticking with her! :-) She's the one who put me on
Lipitor. She's also the one who keeps ordering me to get more exercise,
sigh. :-/

Yeah but I've bounced around a bit. Had a good one in Louisiana but he
wouldn't move with me for some reason.

How rude of him!

But you're welcome to join us.
The operation is painless and you'll be *so* happy...

Witchypoo? What is your major malfunction?

Yours appears to be related to a humorectomy...

call it in the UK, a humourectomy.
