Separation of church and state? Nonsense.
The Church is the state and always has been.
You admit that your are an atheist and try running for office. G-d help you.
HIS vote may be the only vote you will get since He LOVES you and allegedly
does not favor any particular candidate or political party.
For those who have any knowledge of Western Civilization, they surely
understand that American politics is merely a spin off of the Catholic Church
and its hundreds of years of social control and political appointments in
Europe
starting with Constantine's death bed Donation, which added legitimacy to a
convenient political arrangement between the Catholic Church and the Frankish
state.
The Donation was revealed to be a forgery in 1440.

Similarities:
The Constitution = The Canon Law Code
The Pope = The president
The Cardinals = The cabinet
The Bishops = The Senate
The Monsignors = The House of Representative
Canon law judges = Supreme Court
: Roman Catholic = In the Roman Catholic Church, the body of law based on the
legislation of the councils (both ecumenical and local) and the popes, as well
as the bishops (for diocesan matters). It is the law of the church courts and
is formally distinguished from other parts of ecclesiastical law, such as
liturgical law. However, when liturgical law overlaps with canon law, canon law
normally prevails. Canon law has had a profound influence on the law of
countries where the Roman Catholic Church has been the state church. In the
Middle Ages the church courts had very wide jurisdiction—e.g., in England,
control of the law of personal property—and because they were well regulated,
they tended to attract many borderline cases that might also have been heard by
the developing royal courts (see benefit of clergy ). Catholics of Eastern
rites have their own separate codes of canon law, approved by the Roman
Catholic Church. The term “canon law” is also used for ecclesiastical law
in churches of the Anglican Communion. The Anglican Constitutions and Canons
Ecclesiastical (1603) was a collection of rulings, not based on the old canon
law, but given equal force with the canon law.
The Church even has its lobbyists:
"RELIGIOUS LOBBYISTS HEAD FOR CAPITOL HILL"
For the Catholic Church, the issues include welfare reform,
limits on abortion and a tax credit for low-income parents with
children and an gurantee that the Church will remain tax exempt even if it owns
ammunition factories and condom manufacturing plants.
While most religious groups work both sides of the partisan
aisle and count members of both parties among their supporters,
liberal denominations acknowledge that the Republican sweep of
Congress makes it harder to achieve their goals.
"Welfare reform is going to be a real test of values," said
John Carr, secretary of the department of social development and
world peace at the U.S. Catholic Conference, which represents the
nation's Roman Catholic bishops in public policy matters.
"We want to see genuine welfare reform, but we are concerned
that it serve the needs of poor families, not the needs of
politicians. ... There needs to be more personal responsibility,
but not just for the down and out."

Yes. Unfortunately, for all practical purposes, the church influences the
state. Luckily, the church influence is moderated somewhat by The
Constitution.
But I think it's getting tired.

"Though the cool deism of Washington can hardly be distinguished in
broad outline from that of Jefferson, the public reaction to the two
men and their religious views differed sharply. Only Jefferson was
denounced as the 'howling atheist,' never Washington. Only Jefferson
was attacked as the enemy of the churches and the clergy, never
Washington. A curious public probed and punches Adams, Franklin and
Jefferson regarding their Christian convictions, but never Washington."

"And the day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the
supreme being as his father in the womb of a Virgin Mary, will be
classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of
Jupiter.... But we may hope that the dawn of reason and freedom of
thought in these United States will do away [with] all this artificial
scaffolding. (Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Adams, 11 April 1823, as
