I just had this book recommended to me by my therapist. Anyone here
read it? Any opinions?

I'm about half-way through it. Nothing spectacular but fairly well written,
moves quickly and has some interesting hidden history moments. I recommend
it so far.

The wife and I have both read it. It's a cute little adventure
conspiracy tale. If you're into the all those ancient Catholic
conspiracies and secret codes and templars and all that shtick, you'll
enjoy it.
Not especially deep, but a fun read. To quote my wife, it's "Umberto Eco
For Dummies" :)

You might want to go for Wilson's Historical Illuminatus books, Lackey, Flint
and Frees' "The Shadow of the Lion" or the Kurtz-Harris Templars books as well.

The stuff about the codes and secret societies and such was very cool. The
big secret which the protagonists are trying to discover (and the bad guy is
always ranting will mean "great power" for whoever knows it) is a bit of a
letdown, especially for someone like me from a mainly sci-fi background,
where hints like that would generally mean lost alien tech or something.
Political power, maybe, but... well, I won't give any spoilers here.
On the other hand, it does go to great lengths to thumb its nose at the
standard Xian mythology, so it's definitely worth a read.

Incidentally, what is that quote from? I see it or varients thereof all
over the place, but I don't know what it's referencing.

Can't help you with that one.
However, I just finished "Clear and Convincing Proof" by Kate Wilhelm
and it was very nicely done, imo.

I read it a few weeks ago. Pretty good book, IMO.
Neat little plot twists & puzzles.
"Digital Fortress" is nowhere near as good, also IMO.

IMO, she dropped the ball with the Shelly character. It pops in and it
isn't really explained. Everything else works well.

Something else occurred to me.
{spoiler don't scroll down if you're going to read the book}
There's no indication how the culprit gained knowledge about the diaries
much less where they were kept.

Yeah, like the TV series "TAKEN" it might get boring faster than you'll
want and always keep in mind that it's a novel that may use some facts
but on the whole it is not factual. HTH.

Yes, Erica. My wife and I both read (and enjoyed) it. It's the second in a
series of novels about the hero. The first is called "Angels and Demons".
Both are pretty enjoyable reads. Particularly if you're familiar with Roman
Catholicism. Otherwise you might miss some of the "insider humor".
Enjoy the book.
